Help--Work Lunch at Chinese Restaurant!

Recommended Posts

My office is having a working lunch today at a Chinese restaurant. I’m almost 5 weeks out from my VSG and trying desperately to figure out what I can eat there. (My doctor's plan allows me to try everything except raw veggies at this point.) All my Chinese favorites (except the luscious green beans) are fried, so I haven’t paid a lot of attention to what else is on the menu. By the way, I’ve eaten beef, chicken, and pork with no problems—in fact, nothing I’ve tried has bothered me at all.

I know I can look over the buffet and see what looks like plain chicken, etc., and get that and steamed veggies. But I'd prefer to order from the menu so I can take the leftovers home instead of paying full buffet price for the 2 oz of chicken I would eat (you can't take home leftovers from the buffet). Anyone know the names of Chinese meals that are more VSG-friendly so I can order from the menu? This would be easier if I wasn't a cheapskate!

Thanks,

Jane

chicken and broccoli? Mongolian beef (that's my go to and was pre-sleeve), shrimp?

ashelaine, is the Mongolian beef very spicy? I forgot to say I don't like hot and spicy foods. And, stacechase, Soup is something I can only bring myself to eat if I'm sick--I was so happy to get finished with the liquid diet because soup was the only thing I could think of that wasn't sweet!

I'm really not a hugely picky eater except for those things and not liking seafood!

Thanks for your help.

Jane

Prob any chicken thats not fried, like cashew chick, or pepper steak. I was going to say egg drop too but I understand the wanting to stay away

I would definitely start with the Soup. It fills me up. Then chicken. They usually have chicken skewers or teriyaki chicken that has minimal ingredients with minimal processing. ;)

About once a month my friends and I go to our local Pho restaurant and I order mongolian beef every single time. I start with a half cup of egg drop then end up eating about 3 bites of mongolian beef. Where I go it isnt spicy at all but Ive heard others ask for extra spicy so Im thinking you can ask them to go easy on the spiciness. Its more sweet than spicy to me. This way I have leftovers for a few meals afterwards.

I order the BBQ pork appetizer and ask that they bring it with the meals. I always have leftovers to take home... Unless my son or husband is with me and in that case it's history before we leave the place ;D

Mongolian beef isn't normally! I'm a total chicken when it comes to spicy foods :)

I'm probably too late to chime in, but I'd suggest chicken and snow peas or pepper steak, You can pick around the veggies if you need to...

Thanks, guys--I'm back from lunch now. I ordered cashew chicken and it was very good. Sadly, they used fried chicken to make it!! But, although it had the carbs and calories from being fried, it wasn't crunchy since it was in a sauce. There was probably a pound of veggies in it, most of which were very crunchy so I was afraid to eat them since I can't have raw veggies for another week. So I just picked out chicken, cashews, and a few bites of rice. My take-out container looks like it would feed me for another week if it was stuff I could actually eat! Thanks again.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
