being around food/food prep

Recommended Posts

i am 8 days post op. i am still on liquids. but i miss food and am eperiencing hunger. my concern is about food preperation.

my H does not cook. he has been warming up food my friends have graciously brought over for him and the kids. soon he will go back to work and it will be my job again to cook. i find i am terrified to do this. i feel afraid to be around food again. esp food i like, but cant or shouldnt eat.

how have others handled this? my only friend with this surgery who has kids has a H who does all the cooking. my other two friends with bypass, one is single and the other a H who does his own thing with food.

could really use some input, a little freaked. thanks.

In the beginning I made things for them I really didn't care for, like Pasta.

Sometimes I used to eat first so wasn't tempted to try anything.

But at some point you just have to do what you have to do.

As you get further out its not so bad.

I am able to eat the meat and veg part of most of our meals.

I didn't mind cooking for my family post-op, even while I was still on liquids, bc food just didn't look appetizing. I agree about making foods that aren't your favorites. Also maybe get some stuff for now that is more food you "prepare" vs cook--like Stouffer's lasagna instead of homemade lasagna...or whatever your family likes. Maybe Boston Market for a couple of nights--etc.

I am 3 days po right now. Went from band to sleeve. After getting the band first i was struggling with cooking for my husband and 3 kids as well. I also did the same, cook meals that I really didn't care for. And my husband brought food home a few nights as well to help me out. It's really tough so here I am a year and a half later and now going through the same thing all over again. It's a struggle. Especially because food is an addiction for me.

Before surgery I told the family I didn't know when I would feel up to cooking, post surgery. They were extremely understanding, which was awesome. The strange thing is that after about 3 days I felt good and decided I wanted to cook for them! It didn't bother me in the least and I had fun (I love to cook). The only odd part was having to ask someone to be my taster!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
