Hey Feed - got any pointers on how to go about a first hanging in a gallery? A gallery around the corner from work has an open call to artists and you can have your (prepped) art hung in the gallery for a show, and I'm gonna do it!  But I've never done it before and my Dad isn't here to give me pointers...

There are two types of galleries, one you show them your work and they decide if they like it or it fits their profile. This kind of gallery may have open calls for artists to submit thier work for a group show or even a one person show. These galleries do not charge the artist any fee, except if the art sells, and the persentage cam be around 50%. If they do a good j0ob on the show, I think it is worth it.... opening, advirtising, nice space, someone to watch the show during gallery hours and such. The second type of gallery is a "vanity" gallery. This kind of gallery asks the artist to pay for expences up front. They may also have calls for artists, and may not require you to fit any style or such that they represent. I personally always show in galleries that I like, and who show work that I respect, and who do not ask for up front money. I would go with submiting your work in a few galleries that accept submisissions for consideration. Also groovy coffee shops, book stores and such may have a gallery space as well that has a good environment. What do you think? Have to been to shows at your local gallery and feel a good vibe there?

Happy Birthday Coop! Much love from across the pond, mwaah!

Feed - I pass this nice gallery every day on my way to work and one day I saw a big sign in the window, "Call to Artists" and I went on their website, contacted them, and found out that if I bring my work "hang ready" on the final Monday of the month, that they will show it for the following month. I think I will offer a composition landscape, a portrait, a still life, and I can't think of a fourth. I want to show my range. I have two commissioned pet portraits in the works, and I need to register my trademark etc. which I don't know how to do .....

Thanks for the birthday wishes... it was Betty's birthday too - she turned 17 and had her first driving lesson and loved it! We had a lovely day spent with family and friends.

I don't have a trademark, but if you put your name, © (alt g on mac) or a c will do followed by the date... this secures your image.  Kim Scott © 2015

Sounds lovely!

Picking up friends in San Fran tomorrow... they will be here for two weeks... sure eating will go to hell, they are pretty healthy, that will help... but so easy to lose track when company are around.... should be fun though....

Finished a painting over the weekend, a snowy landscape, all those effing snowflakes, what a pain in the ARSE!! And it was gorgeous weather too, but I was committed to finishing that painting so I just got to enjoy the light from my couch and not on the beach. Plein Air may have worked for the Masters but it seems like a hassle to me :)

There is this cadre of women who work on my floor, that just give me high school mean-girls flashbacks like nothing else. They are all clones of each other, dressing similarly, very thin, very blonde, and they have sour expressions on their faces all the time, or anyway every time I see them. it sucks.

Haha Florinda sounds like some of the folks I used to work with ;)

And Kim is right about copyright - in fact, original works are protected under copyright the moment they are completed - technically you don't even need the symbol on the work. You can file your work officially with the US Copyright office - I know one used to be able to lump up to 30 works under a single filing (great for big series lol) for around $30. Again this is not necessary - the greatest protection it can afford is giving you more leverage if you want to sue someone for using your work without permission. This used to happen to me fairly regularly - a cease and desist letter is usually plenty ;)

What gallery are you walking by on your way to work? You work right across the street from my former employer (Cornish College of the Arts).

@@Chimera Have you complained to Alex? I don't use the email notifications so it doesn't bother me... I always click on "content I follow" to see if anything has happened on threads I am following.

does anyone know how I became a VIP while I was away on vacation?

Hi everyonye!

I'm just hanging in there. Trying to lose but giving into some junk food every day. I keep saying I'm going to get a fast in there on Monday but i never make it.

I've met a few weirdos from POF and oK cupid but i'm talking to a really nice guy right now from ok cupid but he lives 2 hours away.

My daughter in law had a miscarriage while they were here for my grandson's birthday party. It was pretty awful and my son should have been more supportive towards his wife. I tried to talk to him, but he's pretty closed up about feelings. My DIL was pretty upset.

I wish I would meet someone that lives closer than 2 hours away. I want someone to do things with!

That's just awful all the way around Denise, hugs!

Chimera - I agree, it's irritating that we no longer get updates, frankly every since it became Bariatric Pal rather than VST it hasn't been as useful or user-friendly. Why the H would they lump all bariatric folks food together under one heading? Plain stupid, I'm not interested in hearing how lap-band people eat or how roux-n-y'ers do it ...

I am not quite across from Cornish, that's the main AMZ campus and I'm up the street at 8th and Virginia. This gallery is across from Mistral Kitchen, I'm starting to have 2nd thoughts and self-doubt after seeing some of their work in the windows...

I agree Florinda. I don't like it that some of the forums are grouped with the other WLs and they can participate in threads. I think the whole idea is nuts. I am sure it's better for Alex and that's why it's done this way.

We all need to message him and ask for the chat room back. It would be fun if some of us could live chat.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
