I'm curious as well. Salads are green lighted for me in week six. Never thought I would be soooooo excited to eat a salad. :)

Hmmm... This sounds interesting. My surgeon said to skip the salad altogether. He prefers his patients to choose something like chicken or fish over lettuce bc of the nutrient value. What does y'all doctors say?

I was allowed to have some salad at the 3 month mark. All docs are different so it's best to ask your particular one. Just make sure you are regularly meeting your nutrient goals before adding in the salads. I try to use veggies with the most nutritional value, so my salads have consisted of spinach and romaine, any other greens would be good but i find the rather bitter. I add some shredded cheese, canned Beans, diced up leftover chicken, or whatever i have on hand. I make my own salad dressings now, i tried using greek yogurt, but it was to tangy for me, so i just use plain yogurt, with seasonings. There are a ton of dressing recipes out there, so just google them.

I just turned six weeks and I ate salad with chicken and crab meat yesterday. It went down well and I was so happy just to be able to eat something fresh and crisp. Salads have always been my summer go to. Just have to be mindful of the Protein first!

I tried salad at 7 weeks.. Used spring field greens and put some cucumbers, onions and tomatoes.. I cut everything small... like the size of the onions and tomatoes in Tabouleh.. I even cut up the field greens small.. I made a homemade avocado-ranch dressing.. It was delicious but really filling. No tummy troubles.

When were you able to tolerate a salad and what did you put in it?

I'm closing in on 3 months postop and had salad earlier this week. It didn't make me sick but it was a lot of "work" eating each bite.

devonmae, how far out are you post-op? no problems eating the chicken and lettuce? also, I am curious--were you tempted to eat the shell (that is sometimes my favorite part)? :)

I was sleeved 4/22. No problem eating the chicken and shredded lettuce. I have done fine for weeks with shredded wilted lettuce on tacos and sandwiches. I eat the inside not the shell or bread. I was not tempted to eat the taco salad shell. I did have one bite and that was enough. I ate all the chicken that was in the salad and about 1/4 of the lettuce that was in it.

I tried salad as soon as I was given the go-ahead to eat solid food. It was and continues to be one of the easiest things for my stomach to tolerate and I am 6 months post op now.

I am given the okay at 7 weeks post op. It makes things easier like tou can make fish taco with lettuce as shell or have a chicken salad. So you are still eating your Protein but you can add a little variety. I am only a little over 3 weeks out so I havent had it yet...well see at 7 weeks

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
