That's what makes me crazy about our country. We're always sticking our nose & our money into helping other countries instead of taking care of our own. I totally understand Anna not being able to just go see a doc or a psych or to get meds. How does one do that when there's no insurance? My psych eval cost 495 for this upcoming surgery. My portion was 25. Without insurance' date=' I would have NEVER been able to pay that. We need to help our own. Period. I don't want anything bad to happen to our Anna. Is there some mental health dept through your own county you can go to for free help? If you're not working, surely you must qualify for some assistance program which could help you pay for your meds? I don't know...just tossing it out there.

As others have said "pretty girl!" That's actually an understatement! You're just gorgeous! Please, please, make some phone calls to your county's health services department. Maybe you can find some help there with no or very little monetary responsibility. (((Hugs)))

Oh & thank you for your response to my post Anna. Life moves on no matter what. I still have set backs on special days like on my Mom's birthday or Christmas & I really hate Mother's Day ever since but I have to keep marching forward! Just like you, sweetie! [/quote']

Wow 495 it's crazy how much each visit is. Yea I have to check it out and make phone calls. It's crazy. I graduated from college 3 years ago and still no job. So it dosnt matter if you have a degree it's still tough.

Awww thank you so much.

And I can't imagine, that's so tough when losing a love one. Especially when holidays come. You Just have to remember that she's not suffering and she's with god and she's watching over you and her love ones. And your right just have to take it day by day.

It's in reading posts like this when I wish the U.S. would take a page out of Canada's health care book. You really get the short end of the stick. :( I know it's hard but you can only get better if you keep looking for answers. Hugs.

Try different dr's, different meds, and go volunteer (like at an animal shelter, hospital, nursing home) til the job situation improves...my dog saved me from depression (along with dr, finding a med, moving more)....do you have an animal? If not, consider adopting a pet. Plus, you know you gotta throw the junk food away...I know it is easier said than done, but you can do it!!

Best of luck to you!! Wish you the best!

My husband has severe depression. Starting in 2005 he was hospitalized several times for it. They tried so many meds and the werent working or working fast enough. He had ECT sessions which really helped. this is a life saving treatment and not as scary as you may think. Aftet the Ect, he was no longer suicidal. Trough trial and error they found the right meds, but its a combination of 3 meds that work together. He is now on disability because he relapses and can't consistantly work, but tghe meds keep him doing well in general. His is a severe case, but just shows you not to give up hope. Thereare so many meds and a good pyschiatrist knows how to combine them. Dont lose hope. Call your dr and ask about free mental health services in your area. I know the depression makes it hard to do anything. Maybe ask a friend or relative to help with the calls and research. Reach out to your support network because you need that help right now.

Just want to say that my daughter suffers from depression/anxiety and meds made her feel worse. She switched to all organic. All the way down to her tooth paste, Shampoo, deodorant etc and she is about 90% better than she was. This may not work for everyone but it is worth a try. All the pesticides and hormones effect everyone differently. There was a noticeable difference in 2 weeks.

Laura-ven did you eventually found the right pill that work for you? How do u do it? You take meds and motivated and losing weight

I'm only 2 weeks post op and I also battle with anxiety. I stayed on my meds the whole time before and after surgery. Sometimes afraid to even leave my house but I just have to set a goal for myself everyday and accomplish it no matter what. You can do this, a lot of it is a mental game with yourself and you just have to make yourself win the battle!!

And it sucks because its alot of money to go to the doctors and buying meds when you have no insurance. That's why I stopped going and taken meds.

Do you qualify for state aid? Like for insurance? Don't be embarrassed to receive state help. I'm in Ny, and I know they could help you with everything like medical, food, housing, and even jobs! Do some research for your state, or let me know what state your in and I'll look it up and post some links.

No problem! I'm currently on Medicaid until my husbands insurance for work kicks in. I'm so lucky because my surgery and all of the pre op testing has been 100% covered.

That's good. Mine was too. I was under my moms until I'm 26 so I did it before I knew I didn't have insurance anymore. So thank god I made it in time. Because I wouldn't have done the surgery. It's too much money if you don't have insurance.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
