How often do you weigh yourself? and not going crazy

I always weighed myself everyday to keep me in check and I know that is probably a bad idea. You wake up feel thinner and you gained 3lbs I know its Water weight fluctuations and whatever but it messes you up in the head. I had my surgery on the 23 of may and I've lost 15-20 lbs it goes up one day next it's less. It's driving me a little nuts. How often do you guys weigh yourself? And any ideas on how to keep yourself from doing it everyday? I feel like having my partner hide it and give it to me every 2 weeks

Eh, I talk a good game. ;) I think you should weigh, at the most, once/week. Better yet, weigh monthly or even wait longer. The scales fluctuate too much and too easily and it WILL drive you crazy!

Right now, though, I'll admit to doing exactly what I know I shouldn't do...and I'm weighing daily. Part of it, I think, is the novelty of the sleeve. With the LapBand, I was told to NOT really expect any weight loss that first 6 weeks (because you have to wait at least that long for a fill), so I put the scales away and tried to rely on clothing to tell me how I was doing.

But with the sleeve, the scales have already dropped 12-15 lbs. Part of me doesn't believe it's "real," even though my clothes are looser. Part of me just wants to see...will the numbers go down again today? They definitely don't drop daily...it's been about every 3rd day, I guess, before I see a change.

At some point, I'll take my own advice and put them away for a month.

I'm making a resolution not to weigh every day (ha, we'll see how that goes). Considering how often I broke every New Year's Resolution I ever made, mmmmmaybe I should resolve to weigh myself daily, then break that!

I can understand wanting to check the scale often--you just got the best gift ever when you got sleeved, it's natural to constantly want to make sure it's working, and how well it's working.

Pre-op, I've lost just a little so far, but it was done without ever checking the scale unless I was at a pre-op visit. Kind of a nice surprise to see it go down, and in a substantial amount. If I had checked every day, I doubt I would have celebrated .3 lbs. one day, and .19 the next, or whatever it was. For myself, those tiny little scale movements would have frustrated me even more.

I think I'll try not to weigh more than once or twice a month--but it will be rough!

Me too. I weigh every morning right after I get up. This is my official weight. But I also weigh in the evenings after work. And before and after using the bathroom. And, Uh, hang on a sec.... Ok, I'm back - Woot! Down 2/10ths from this morning :P

I don't let the weight fluctuations bother me (too much). It is what it is. I know from extensive experience (5 months now) that the weight will keep dropping as long as I keep to the program.

As I try to tell people, I'm not obsessive about weighing myself, I just have a really boring life. B)

I am four weeks out. At three weeks out I was weighing daily and often disappointed. So I forced myself to only weigh once a week. I will weigh tomorrow for the first time in a week. Hope I see some good news! I have been disappointed in how little I've lost during these four weeks so far, but talked to my nut today and she said that is "normal". Hope you are able to let daily weighing in go. It is too frustrating. I prefer to see other progress through sparkpeople.com and my fitbit. I am diligent in logging food, Water and exercise into sparkpeople and wear my fitbit faithfully. This helps me not need the daily scale.< /p>

I weigh myself every Sunday morning after I wake up and use the restroom. Only once per week. Any more than that and I would likely be a very unpleasant person.

Thanks everyone it's just frustrating I guess I walked for 45 min yesterday was so pumped and excited and then today I gained 3 lbs I was like really? Lol anyway I'll have it hidden and try to aim for every 2 weeks. My face loojs thinner my belly is flatter I'll just live on that high for now lol.

I started off weight myself every day but it was depressing that I wasn't seeing the results I was expecting, so I started (and continue to do so) weighing myself only on Wednesday mornings. If I forget one Wednesday, I wait until the next Wednesday. Your weight fluctuates so much throughout the day (and even week) that weighing every day really isn't a very accurate way to measure your losses.

Weigh myself every morning when I wake up and evening before bed, but frankly it's depressing me to see down .2 ounces at a time or worse yet, up .2 ounces. I promised myself I will hide my scale tomorrow and wait until next Friday to weigh again since my surgery was 2 Fridays ago.

Not only do I weigh myself every morning, I have two scales. I use both. Then I log my weight onto my calendar. On days where I dropped a pound or more I look at MFP to see what I ate and my Protein content. It's obsessive. And when I'm at work I am constantly calculating and recalculating how much weight I will lose by September. I have to stop. I would love to do bi-monthly weigh ins.

highest weight = 228 DOS = 219 CW = 203 DOS was May 7th 2013

I also weigh all the time. I know it is not good. When I lose weight I am so happy. When I gain I beat myself up. I am only 2 weeks out. Maybe I won't think about it so much later. Right now I think I am trying to convince myself the surgery worked.

Our stats are almost the same!!! How tall r u!? Highest weight 223....surgery day 216 today 201.5! Surgery was may 10

      I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
      I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.

      I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!
