Can't yet have bread, but...

Recommended Posts

What about item made with bread crumbs? I'm thinking meatballs, or breaded chicken breasts. I know bread take up room, and it's too soon for me anyway, but I was just curious.

Thanks all.

Not sure how far out you are from surgery. I have used panko as breading for chicken and it was fine.

What exactly is that? Heard of it. Thought it was a brand of bread crumbs.

Panko is a style of Japanese breadcrumbs - much larger and crunchier texture than regular.

So, my question would be...do you really need the breading? I like breaded food as much as the next person, but I don't need it. Also...like in meatballs or meatloaf...why not try oatmeal? At least you'll get a little Protein along the way.

I don't NEED the bread crumbs, but it does enhance the flavor. Oatmeal in meatballs provides a Gummy texture, and with the eggs and hamburger meat, that's plenty of Protein. And I'm not deep frying the chicken or breaded pork chops, I'm baking them. I'm simply not a fan of plain baked chicken or pork chops.

I am three months out and ate homemade meatloaf and meatballs on a soft food diet. I put cheese in mine to add a little Protein. I also soak the breadcrumbs (Italian) in milk before adding them, to keep it super moist. Did not have a problem.

Also, I was able to tolerate Zaxbys boneless chicken wings on a soft diet. They likely have a little breading, but are very moist. Just remember to account for everything so you can stay within recommendations.

Need? No. Just because we are sleeved doesn't mean food can't taste good. I make an awesome chicken parm using panko to bread the chicken. I use my homemade, from tomatoes marinara sauce to top it so I want the flavor of the chicken to compliment that. My sauce Is so stinking healthy and awesomely good. It is a definite labor of love though. I won't put it on just anything. :-)

I see why you might ask but actually most people have this procedure to eat normally and healthy. I believe making the quality and flavor the best we can without going overboard like tons of butter and such will help me eat healthy and enjoy the food I do have.

I have to say about the oatmeal in the meatball, don't think that would work without compromising the flavor.

Hey newat52, would you mind sharing your sauce recipe? I've always used jars and added to them, but I'm going to start making it fresh.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
