Well now that I've been thinking about this, its not so much of a food Funeral as it is saying goodbye to my gluttonous way of eating. Goodbye Glutton!! Hello picky eater!!

You know the food funeral thing is a tough one..

When I knew I had a date I went to the store before my pre op and picked up a pint of some kind of ice cream (can't even remember the flavor how sad) went home and ate half of it that night and finished it the next day.. After I ate it?? Nothing, it was just gone it didn't feel special it didn't make me feel better, in fact it did nothing for me except make me feel crappier about myself...

Fast forward to today, I can eat normal again so if I wanted a bit of ice cream I could.

So I guess what I'm saying is don't sabotage yourself with thoughts of "I need to eat this now because I can never have it again"

Oh and yesterday was my daughters birthday we went out to Thai food and I also had a couple of bites of cake :)

I used the time pre-op to make sure my head was in the game. I DID go out for a nice dinner with my husband a few days before surgery. We saw a movie and had sushi because my doctor asked me to stay away from sticky things for a long time post-op (especially white rice). I had a full meal, certainly, but I didn't stuff myself silly like I would have a year before.

You still have time. Get your head in the game! You'll need it.

My surgery isn't scheduled yet - I'm in month three of six months worth of visits ... but I've already been planning a last visit to Red Lobster' date=' Olive Garden, and White Castle LOL! Not a last, last visit, but a last visit where I can go and overeat. That sounds so terrible when I say it out loud, but it's the truth![/quote']

At least you have a forum where you can admit the dirty little food secrets in the back of your mind...and people understand. :)

Good advice!

I'm 5 months post op and I remember before I started the liver shrinking liquid diet my boyfriend and I went out for a "last meal" of a thick juicy steak and sweet potato (my favorite). It wasn't really a last meal considering I have had steak post op and I could have sweet potato whenever I wanted.

I think it's fun to do a last meal or food funeral but don't go overboard and most importantly DON'T TAKE IT TOO SERIOUSLY!! The food your eating you can eat post op too (probably, unless your eating McDonald's or other crap) so just have fun with it and keep it light hearted

Well thinking about it sounds GREAT. Even planning. But maybe try not to do it? I like the response (above) to get your head in the game! (and that's the really hard thing, at least to me.

Wow glad I read this. I am 6 week until my July 1 surgery and on a business trip most of the time and food funeral does not even begin to describe what I've been doing. Especially since I found out my date two days ago.

But you guys are totally right. This will just make it worse. I'm going to try with the Water and mostly incorporate working out. I will also make better food choices. Might as well learn now!

I'm going to try not to eat too much - especially at Red Lobster (but omigosh it's Red Lobster!!! lol) because Lord only knows I have ENOUGH weight to lose as it is!!! I have cut down so much already though. I went from eating fast food twice a day to about twice a week or less sometimes. Fast food is a REALLY big problem for me...so I've got that cut down already and that's a big deal for me. I can't wait until I can little bits and feel full. That's why my diets ALWAYS fail. I like the healthy food, but I STARVE to death on it!

When they told me I had to wait months between band and sleeve I did the food overdose. The months turned into 18 due to band damage and I gained 86lbs. If I could do it over?.. Yeah, I'd probably eat just as bad again. For me it took myself to become totally disgusted with food and myself before I wrapped my mind around the fact I had to change.

Before I had to start my pre-op I was so sick of food I couldn't even think of eating and so I started the pre-op early. My journey has been perfect since then.

I guess everyone is different and has to find their individual way of doing this the right way ... for themselves.

I'm doing just about the same thing. My band was unfilled about 2 months ago and I'm awaiting a late June (find out exact date on Monday) date. Over the past year, since I started having band problems, I gained back 30 lbs (8 just last week while on a 7 day Alaskan cruise). I swore that wouldn't be me, I would never gain my weight back. Unfortunately, it didn't work that way. I'm embarrassed to be seen by my dr on Monday so I'm being very good food-wise until then, but I know I'm going to be hosting "food funerals" probably daily until late June. I don't fit into many of my summer clothes and they'll be even tighter by surgery date.

Why do we do this to ourselves?

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
