40Fr. Staples fired snug up against the bougie. That is all.

IMO - Lots of unnecessary judgment about asking the 'bougie size question'. It does matter to some folks, otherwise they wouldn't have reached out to our SUPPORT group to ask. If you didn't think it was a valid or important question, why respond? Just move on. Everyone is different in their curiosities and concerns. We're all here to relate with one another, and to also feel that we are relatable. I loathe seeing unconstructive criticism.

I don't think anyone said its not important I think what ppl are saying that when it comes to losing bougie sizes is not going to make you more or less successful and we all entitled to our opinions and some or facts collecting all info agree or disagree it benefits everyone

I asked my sugeon. He told he used a 40 but not to draw comparisons with other surgeons preferences. Size of the bougie is one facet of the sugery but how it is used makes a huge difference. My guy leaves the bougie in place and then fires his staple line right up against it. He told me some docs prefer a smaller bougie and then staple off of it. Some even take out the bougie before stapleing to take out the chance of stapleing the bougie itself. He said the final size of the stomach is a result of size and stapleing technique.

That's also what I've heard! It's all so interesting!

If you look at my blog post' date=' all about the bougie sizes are explained, and the size of your stomach. I even have a link to a bariatric test to show what your capacity is post op. It is under the size of your new stomach. There are videos too to show how liquids pass through an actual sleeve, and a sleeve right after surgery and one a few years post op.[/quote']

HI KULITA, I WOULD LOVE TO SEE MORE INFO ON THIS, COULD YOU PLEASE GIVE ME THE LINKS TO THE BARIATRIC TEST & YOUR BLOG POSTS? ALL SOUNDS VERY INTERESTING? I BELIEVE OUR SURGEON USES A 32, BUT WILL CERTAINLY ASK NEXT VISIT. THANKS!

Doesnt matter, actually.

Boogie size often doesn't even have any relevant effect on the final size of the sleeve because of over-sewing and whatnot.

I feel I need to say that I started out as a few others did, giving my answer. Which is mine to give if I wanted to, and I wanted to! This is an open forum and all opinions are welcome as long as they are not attacks (which mine wasn't) the trouble started IMO when someone said that we (I) didn't have the right to post my opinion.

This thread will be read by "new" people and they deserve true information.

Mine used a sewing needle instead of a garden hose or thimble. Am I in trouble?? Also I think I stretched it with my soda through a straw!! OH NO!!!

Did that cover the urban legends?

Mine is 34. But my stomach is not the same size as every other person with a 34. Because every anatomy is different.

God I hope I'm not sounding judgmental or hijacking the thread. I did talk about bougies.

:-)

People need to realize that this is a public forum with thousands of people with thousands of opinions. No need to get butt hurt about something that a stranger says to you on the Internet. Just saying :)

*****And I feel the need to add that this is not directed to anyone in particular and can pertain to most threads on here that creates some sort of drama*****

No problem! I just felt strongly about some of the comments that were kind of going left field. When I was pre-op I asked questions about the bougie and bougie sizes, because just I'm a researcher all the way! I wanted to be educated about everything...and I find it really interesting too, to see what differences there are out there. I saw one doctor online demonstrating that there's hardly a difference between one size, and the very next size....but when looking at say, a 28 vs. a 38 (I'm making up the numbers) there is a sizeable difference. He said these wide ranges determine whether your sleeve is the diameter of a big highlighter, a Sharpie marker, or a pen! Wow! (Yeah I'm a biology geek all the way, heheh.) Oh, and my screen name is from an old Bill Murray movie called What About Bob, haHA!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
