Lower BMI Bandsters!

Recommended Posts

Hello fellow bandsters. Just posting an introduction:

Starting BMI/weight: 34.1/231 lbs

Surgery Date: November 16, 2007

Surgery BMI/weight: 32.5/220 lbs

Now: 30.7/208 lbs

I am not feeling any restriction but I get my first fill tomorrow!

I self paid as an investment in my future. I have central body obesity, high blood pressure and hyperlipidemia. My mother had the same body type, heart disease and diabetes. My insurance would not pay unless I had a BMI of 42 or greater! I would have to be about 290 lbs first. I could see that happening eventually if I kept going as I was, so I took the leap. I am glad I did. :)

Welcome!!! I felt the same way! I was at 190 but knew the way I felt I was on the upswing again!!! I had weighed 240, lost weight, then up to 240 again, lost some for a wedding, than started gaining again. I was out of control!!!

My body had been thru too much already and I didn't wan to gain like that again.

Well, I had my surgery on Friday. All went well and I'm doing pretty good. I'm bummed that I feel so hungry. I was hoping that at this stage I'd feel something other than that. I feel bloated from the gas and IV Fluids, but still hungry, such a frustrating combination.

I can't wait till soft food stage. I'm going nuts already.

Congrats!! Let us know if you have any questions!

It takes time to get to a good level of restriction. None of us wanted to hear that. It has to be creeped up on or you can get over filled and have problems, then get unfilled and start all over again.

I only have restriction maybe 1 week or so now out of the month near my premenstrual time. The rest of the time I can eat "normally".

I can still occasionally get stuck and pb, but I don't want any more fill than I have.

I decided to use a supplement when i was first banded to help me with my appetite and that would help my metabolism.

It helped me out a lot.

But, you can also do other things to help yourself, like drinking enough Water or like me, I drink crystal light, tea and Water when I go to the gym. Take your Vitamins, I was using liquid Vitamins. Have enough Protein to keep you feeling full too.

What real foods are you eating now? I had my surgery done by Dr. Martinez @ OCC and I too am surprised by how small the incisions are. I'm only a week behind you, have no restriction and I'm starving. LOL

I had cream of chicken, split pea Soup, bought a mix to make tortilla Soup (only added water) and put it in my food processor (walmart $14), also put chili Beans with nacho cheese in my food processor (only did this during this stage to get enough calories in).

Go to the soup isle and see what looks appealing and just put it in a food processor with some water! It is surprising filling and tastes great!

Sure! What does that involve? I go to the gym most days. I am trying really hard not to gain over the next few days. There will

be a lot of food around Christmas eve and Christmas day.

I did very well yesterday at a party at one of my relatives house. I just had some veggies and dip and ignored all the rest of the junk. I was happy with myself.

Well, I guess it would mean something different to each of us, but it would be the accountability and for us to be able to encourage each other.

I ate like a pig yesterday and today!!!

I was able to eat anything and everything I wanted and feel gross!!!

The QuickSlim30 really makes all the difference for me and I can't wait to order it in a few days!!!

I went to the gym yesterday and did about 20 minutes cardio on the bike and did about 40 minutes of upper body, chest, tricepts, free weights and machines.

Merry Christmas!!!

I go to the gym every day except Mondays. Mondays are my long day at work.

I do an hour of cardio on the weekends. I usually do 20 min. on the elliptical, 20 min on the stair master and 20 min on the treadmill, alternating between walking fast and jogging.

I also do a bunch of different weight machines, and some stuff with the free weights that my trainer taught me. I can't wait until I can afford him again. I miss working out with him.

I ate more dinner than I should have today. It was at 4:00 and now it's 6:00 and I still feel so full that I am uncomfortable. I can't wait for the holidays to be over!

just Curious, What Is Quickslim 30? I Am At A Plateau Right Now, And Need Something To Quickstart Things Up Again. Of Course I Just Had A Fill Last Friday. I Can Only Have About 3 To 5 Bites Of food Now. Not Sure If That Is My "sweet Spot" Or Not. But I Guess I Need To Wait And See If I Will Start Losing Again.

So how good or bad was everyone over the Christmas Holiday? You know I am talking about food. Yesterday was my first day of actual solids. I was very disappointed, I was able to eat everything and I think I almost did! We had another big dinner tonight for my in laws and I was not able to eat nearly as much. I am soooo ready for a fill, I miss that first week post op restriction. I was down 7 lbs after the first two weeks and now I am back up a few pounds. Please reassure me that once I get restriction I will lose again....I feel like such a newby asking that question. I am 3 weeks into this and I can't even tell I have a band. No more pain and soreness over the incision, only if I lay on the hard floor on my belly. My incisions look fabulous and I can eat normally. If I could control my portions then I wouldn't be in this situation in the first place....BRING ON THE RESTRICTION!!!!

On another note, I actually told my sister in law tonight that I got the band. It is going to be the biggest mistake of my life, I am sure of it. I better hurry up and tell my hubby before she does. She didn't really know what it was so I showed her some pictures of it. Maybe she won't rat me out but, I am sure she will tell her husband. I wish I wouldn't have told her now, it is like I am cheating to lose weight. I guess I would have loved to just tell them I am just losing the weight naturally by counting calories. The hubby still has no idea and I am almost ready to tell him. The holidays are over and that is what I was waiting on, can't ruin Christmas now.

Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. Looking forward to next year and a fresh start.

I'm a week behind you on my surgery date and like you have no pain, no restriction, wouldn't even know I have a band in. I feel like I could eat anything, but I'm being careful. I did super good over Christmas Eve and Christmas day but I was an eating machine yesterday.

I can't wait for my first fill. I'm still down 10.5 pounds, but I doubt I will be before my first fill if I keep eating like this.

I can't believe you haven't told your husband yet. That's amazing.

I am almost 90 days out and I am down 22 pounds. THis is nice but was hoping for more.

AudricIan- keep your chin up - I had my third fill today (now at 6ccs in a 10cc band) and I am hoping for restriction. I have only had one painful experience (eating too fast and too much) but no sliming. Having the surgery in early Oct and still being able to eat more than I would like is very frustrating but I keep telling myself that at least I have not gained weight which is what always happens to me during the holidays.

I almost told a friend after some wine on XMAS eve and was so glad that I didnt. I feel for you.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
