Still feeling weak after 3 weeks

Recommended Posts

I was sleeved on 3/26 and still feel like I can't return to work. I and not getting in all of my Water or Protein, I am sure that is part of the problem. Anyone else still feel weak? Do you feel totally recovered? Also do you notice nothing taste good anymore? I couldn't wait to have my first crab cake last night and it was just so so.

I went back at 2 weeks and I've been tired too. I think its the recovery and low cals. The body just needs time to adjust. I'm hoping to be full speed at 6 weeks since that's when everything is supposed to be healed. It's gotten better each week though.

I was sleeved on 4-3 and I am feeling really good with energy..... I still have some pressure in my sturnm area once in a while, but overall good.

I have been walking 2+ miles per day since release from the hosptial. My Dr has me on all Clear Liquids for 2 weeks and then I go to liquids for 2 weeks and then pureed food for 4 weeks before I can have anything solid. I am suprised that you can have crab cakes 3 weeks post op. All I have been tasting is liquid. No weird changes yet.

I was not able to get much Protein yet.... I have been doing 4 oz of liquid New Whey Protein Drink per day.... 42 grams of protein per day is better than nothing..... I am most likely going back to work 3 weeks post op.

I'm not 100% either and its been 5 weeks. I don't know why its taking me so long to bounce back. Maybe I'm just old. I dunno. But it does get a little better all the time.

I have to be honest, I was sleeved on 2/6, and I only starting feeling better about 2 weeks ago. I stayed extremely weak and run down until about 2 months post-op. That being said, I am larger than your average VSG patient, so that could have something to do with it. I've read many people who say it took them about 6 weeks to have their energy back, so hang in there. As for taste, that comes with the territory. I posted about it recently because I experienced this with liquids immediately post-op, and it reoccurred for me recently with anything I ate. I was told that can happen when your body goes into ketosis. Since it's a signal that my body is burning fat, I've decided to try and be grateful for it any time it happens. ;)

I am 14 months out and have lost 104% of my excess weight. It is very difficult at first to get everything in. I know you are anxious to eat real food, but it is better at this point to go for the better nutrition choices. The Liquid Protein does double duty, so I recommend that you choose those for the first month-2. Also, things like Greek yogurt or low/non fat cottage cheese, where you get more Protein in less food. I did not try to eat 3/meals 2/snacks at first. I put Protein Powder in my Water and sipped it all day. Try walking early in the day. The commercial that says " a body in motion tends to stay in motion" is actually true. Getting your circulation going early in the day will help create more energy! Hope this helps. = )

I was also sleeved on 3/26. I still get tired pretty easily - usually take a 2 hour nap in the afternoon. Today was my first day back at work. I have a desk job, but I ran out of steam around 3:30 or so. I wasn't able to stomach my AM Protein shake (too thick) but got in my afternoon one (Syntrax nectar Caribbean Cooler). Supposed to start purees tomorrow, but I jumped the gun and started tonight. I'm really hoping this will help me get some energy back. Supposed to exercise more, but I just don't have the energy yet.

Iam feeling great I was sleeved on 3/20, I am actually finishing projects around the house that have been lingering for years. The only thing that is killing is around 2 pm I start crashing hard. I am lucky enough to leave work and come home and take a nap. I am hoping this is happening because Iam not taking any carbs in. I am following my diet to the T. Iam on soft foods by may 1st reg foods. I really hope this changes soon.

I will be 1 month post op on Thursday, I was sleeved 3/18. I at times still feel weak and tired. At the same time my minds has so much energy, but my body doesn't match. Lol I seriously struggle with washing my hair in the shower. It hurts to hold my arms in the air. I am a full time student and I returned to school 2 weeks post op. I meet my Protein requirements for the most part daily. Consuming Water is my challenge. I can usually get 16.9 oz is. Not good!!!! Puréed food does not look appealing to me, I usually do a Protein Shake for Breakfast, just about 40g of protein. Then I do cottage cheese and Greek yogurt! And sometimes a string cheese. I'm nervous to start solids because I am afraid of hurting myself. I have hurt myself with just eggs. It doesn't feel good.

I was sleeved on 3/25 and feel the same way. I've been throwing up a lot after meals too. This morning I had two teaspoons of sweet potato casserole from Boston market and it is sitting pretty well. We'll see how the rest of the day turns out. I've also been trying to get more water/liquids in. Still having a hard time with Protein shakes though. Really can't stand the taste of any of them. Good Luck and I hope you are feeling better.

I was sleeved on 3/13 and it took me 3 1/2 weeks to finally start feeling normal. I'm 55 and I think age has a lot to do with recovery time. I'll be 5 weeks out tomorrow and I'm feeling good. It has helped that I've started soft foods. I drink my Premier Protein shake from costco for breakfast. At least I know I'm getting 30gm of Protein in right off the bat in the morning. The rest of my protein comes from food. Make sure you are taking your multiple Vitamin. My dr told me to take two a day even tho it's only a once a day vitamin. It helps. Hope you get back on your feet soon.

I am so happy to read that I am not the only one going through this. To be honest, I've been miserable! I feel like the odd man out because everyone around me is living their "normal" lives and I feel so abnormal... it gets me very depressed. I was always so happy and my outlook was always so optimistic so feeling as shown as I do is so unlike me. That also gets me down. I can't wait to feel like myself again. I'm only 2 1/2 weeks out and I understand is very soon after surgery but I miss my old self very much.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
