I'm home from the hospital and doing okay. don't like the pain at all. I'm hoping that gets better each day. eating feels really weird. I'm trying to sip all day, but I'm really feeling hungry, not sure if it's real hunger or just my strange stomach.

The pain subsides a bit each day.

You'll feel much better around day 7. You'll be hungry but you'll find that you can only eat a few bites and will feel full. At night I would have watered down mashed potatoes. It always took the edge off the hunger. Other than that I had the usual shakes, Soups, etc.

Good luck...

You'll see...you'll feel better soon...

Eating feels odd to me too. I felt really hungry the day of surgery (afterward) but now I have to be reminded to eat! I'm only 4 days post op (including day of surgery). Taste buds are different, good thing I guess. I've tried some sugar free Popsicles to help with Fluid intake. Make sure to drink enough water!

For the heck of it I decided to use a ketostick, it's so dark purple that its nearly black! Explains rapid weight loss even more. Keep ice on the manipulation site and don't let the pain meds ware off.

And I have not being hungry I did something I not sure if I could do but I went to starbucks and bough a Decaf coffee with skim milk and not sugar. It was pretty good. I did too. There's Protein In it as well! Starbucks gave me a nutrition chart of all their drinks.< /p>

I'm not hungry either. I have to be reminded to eat. Not even food smells good at all. My daughters made a turkey an Swiss on rye last night and I thought the smell would make me feel bad but I didn't smell it. They made some rice pilaf this afternoon too and I didn't miss that either. I do hope to enjoy some foods again and eat normally (just less) some day. I'm down from 230.4 surgery day to 216 today. I'm in a very deep ketosis.

So I'm on Day 4 (including surgery day) and pain is slightly better. Still can't get all my water/protein in. Every time I take a sip (even small ones) I have a tightness/pain in my chest which goes away once I burp. It's weird. So I'm sipping very slowly. I hope I don't get dehydrated. I go for my one week appointment on Wed. and that is when I should be switched to full liquids. I really need some variety. The Clear Liquids are getting so old. I also feel hungry which I didn't expect. Kids and hubby had pizza last night and I almost cried I wanted it so bad. Even a PB&J sounds heavenly right now! I'm not cooking right now (too much temptation) so my hubby has to feed the kids and he doesn't cook much. Therefore the pizza. They are really trying not to eat in front of me.

I'm on your level entirely! But I must admit I'm not anywhere as sore as I was yesterday. Also, I got 1 1/2 shakes down....and the scale says I'm down 17lbs since pre-op with 5lbs from date of surgery. Missing the food is getting easier with those lbs dropping!! Hang in there!

I would like to hear from some of you about your experiences after you woke up from surgery. What happens during your stay in the hospitial...thx in advance..

I had a hard time coming out if the anesthesia. I was totally out of it the entire time in the hospital. I felt so uncomfortable and being a control freak didn't go well. I expected to get right up and walk. I took 2 super short walks and could barely get out of bed. I was allowed nothing until the next morning after making sure I didn't have a leak. Then I had to drink about 4ozs of Water so I could be discharged.

I wish I would have laid off the morphine button a little.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
