I just read this article on the "Quiverfull" movement where the idea is to have as many kids as possible and that "God is the only one who can open or close the womb". Some of these idiots have 12, 18 and 20 kids.

I'll just assume that everyone on this forum is intelligent enough to know the reasons why this is a really bad idea, such as our severely dwindling environmental resources, for one.

On a more mundane level, every time someone complains about a new development going up behind their house, or long lines at the supermarket, or horrible traffic, I feel like screaming "that's because people are having too many *bleeping* kids!

It makes me so mad that people are so dumb.

There is a definition of the true Christian Protestant religion that runs as a thread between say Methodists, Lutherans, Episcopals etc. These religions use only the Bible as the true word no other books and do not believe that good works will earn your place in heaven but by your accepting Christ death on the cross for our sins and your belief and desire to follow in his ways is how we get there, and then the good things will follow from there if you truly do follow in his ways.

It really does bother me that some groups go door to door and call their religion Christian and mis represent themselves to other unchurched people and have many false doctrines underneath that are not shared at the time nor are they part of other Christain church beliefs. Their God or Jesus is not the same God or Jesus that the Protestant Christians believe in or we would accept one anothers baptisms, which we don't, along with many other things that the Christian religion does not profess. I was just approached before Christmas by two young girls on my door step and we got into quite a discussion. Two of my closest friends are Jehovah's Witnesses and yes they do "field service." Whether I agree w/them or not on the religion aspect I know they are doing nothing wrong and what they feel is right.

Actually, you stated that a family of 5 received "almost eleven hundred dollars" in food stamps, per month. I don't think $615.00 per month for 1 adult and 4 children (your example) is "enormous" - especially if those kids are teenage boys. It comes out to $1.36 per meal. Can you eat lunch on $1.36?

I am not Protestant....I am Catholic, and Catholics are definitely Christians - in fact, we are the original Christians. We believe that Christ died to redeem our sins, but we still require good works. The Church's philosophy is give of your time, your talent, and your treasure.

If you join the Catholic church and were baptized in any other Christian faith, you're good to go....they will not re-baptize you. Nor do Methodists. I'm not sure about Lutherans, but my very good friend is President of his congregation and I will ask him. The Baptist church does not recognize any baptism but their own (I think) and certainly none that don't require immersion.

I get regular Saturday morning door-knockers, too. One is the same frail, very elderly lady - all dressed up in her Sunday-go-to-meeting clothes - handing out the Watchtower. I am always kind to these people. How can you not be? They are practicing a very important part of their faith, and even though my church does not proselytize (thank God), I feel like it is my Christian duty to help them fulfill that obligation.

My SIL and BIL were called on by two Mormon boys one summer (near DC). Mary (my SIL) is a good Catholic girl. She welcomed them, fed them, invited them back again and again. They loved coming over and playing pool with my BIL and the two daughters. But finally, they told her they had to stop coming because they knew in their hearts they couldn't convert them, so they weren't being missionaries any more, they were just two young men having a good time. I thought that was sad. What's wrong with just hanging out with decent people, just for the enjoyment of it? I wish religion didn't take the fun out of everything.

I was raised Catholic and my husband was raised Methodist, we were married in his Methodist Church and our first born son was baptised there as well. A few years later we joined the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod and we were not required to be baptised again. We did attend weekly classes with our pastor to become members.

OUr counties are the suburbs of dc and are considered part of DC although they do not go into DCs actual area (which is quite small) I am not stupid. And if you live in Old town ( my father lived there until a few years ago and my x still lives there... you consider yourself part of NOVA and DC) And Fairfax is just as rich as they are as well as Manassas...

I realize that the stats are statewide, but amounts in whole should be looked at for areas, not just in the state amount which skews the info.

I remember being in the Shopper's Food Warehouse in Clinton, MD (where I lived) being behind a woman checking out w/nails done to the hilt (she even had little diamonds glued on them, real cute), fur coat, hair and make up like she was going to a fashion show, gold/diamond jewelry, and Louis Vatton purse, and of course paid WITH FOOD STAMPS!!!! The topper was when she got into a brand new Cadilac!! Pissed me off to no end! I guess the food stamp recipients where Carlene live are all honest! If they all were like Carlene's clients, then maybe the taxpayer's $'s would not be going to waste! PLease!:doh:

Trust me, I did not see the best side of all the people I worked with. I had a client who starved her newborn to death. She and her boyfriend were too busy getting drugged up to even ask a food bank for formula, let alone WIC or DHS.

I had clients I hated to see walk in the door. They felt sooooooooooo entitled. I had things thrown at me, got called all kinds of names, and even had my life threatened once. None of that made me change my mind about the programs. Because I saw plenty of good come from them, too. And no matter how much I disliked the nasty, pushy, parents, I could never bring myself to take it out on the kids.

I worked at a daycare in high school and their were quite a few mothers that got assistance for childcare. They wanted to work, but couldn't b/c afford to pay the full amount for childcare.

I prefer to donate to charity personally, rather than being forced by the government to do so. In fact, I don't call welfare programs welfare. I call them "forced charity".

She wasn't driving. It was just the point. When I lived there drugs were a BIG problem, I doubt it was extra income she earned from her Washington Post route! Hell, I'm wondering how many are single women that keep breeding, get "assistance" and live w/a relative or boyfriend and get $ off them too....

Funny story, but true. When my daughter-in-law was in high school, she went to the grocery store with her mom to replenish the 'fridge after a nice vacation in Mexico. Her mom had traveler's checks left from the trip and used them to pay for her groceries. My DIL was HORRIFIED. She was afraid people would mistake them for food stamps!

I guarantee you, your taxes aren't going up due to welfare recipients. I would rather know my tax dollars are going to help some less fortunate than funding things like this war.
