Dee,

Thanks for being so thoughtful. I dont think there is anything you can do for my family right now. Just listening to me as I worry out loud is plenty! I do have a brother in Colorado who has been there helping my parents as much as he can.

My mom is home from the hospital now and doing much much better. Was a bit scary for a few days, but she pulled through. My dad and stepmom are trying to move forward. The fire is still under investigation by the insurance company because there was an explosion that caused the fire. So they are kind of in limbo, but they are hanging in there. My hubby is feeling much better now. He has his next Dr. appt. on the 28th and can hopefully return to work.

We still plan on making our move back to Colorado in early June. I am trying not to worry about things as much. I decided I need to leave things up to a higher power and trust that everything will work out exactly like it is supposed to!

You are so welcome!

I'm glad you have a sibling here.

Amie - I live in Miami, OK - way up in the NE corner of the state on the KS, MO, & AR border. But I am glad to hear there's another Okie with Dr. K. The closest support group or fill doctor to me is Tulsa. I may try support but his fills are around $250 and I can fly to Denver for less than that.

Vucarre - I have my surgery on May 14 too. Maybe we will see each other during the process. I had my phone consult a few weeks ago but I don't have my nutrition consult until May 5 which is just 2 days before I do my pre-op diet.

Dee - I love your website and have learned alot reading about your journey. Thank you for being so honest and willing to talk about your true feelings and experiences both here and there.

I'm going to check my schedule and try to get to the Aug reunion. I'll just be 10 weeks post op but I plan on being smaller. It would be great to meet all of you who have so faithfully posted here. You all really encouraged me as I have made the decision to get the band and I wait to be banded.

Just 20 days to my band!

Sidney

Thank you Sidann,

That is very kind of you to say. I have really found my site to be very cathartic. Writing my thoughts, good and bad helps me understand them better. This hasn't been easy for me, but it hasn't been impossible either. I know I need to understand how I ever let myself weigh over 400lbs or it will be a battle I fight the rest of my life.

I hope you can come to the Reunion. What a blessed event that will be... a group of people who have all been on the same journey! i can't wait. I think it's so thoughtful of Dr. K to host this BBQ and even more thoughtful of Natalie to give us the date so early. At work we are already scheduling for July. AND just think of everyone who lives out of state.

I can't wait!

Yeah, I am back from my fill and I am soooo very happy! I thought I had gained but I didn't!!! My scale is truly my enemy now!

I had a nice talk with Natalie, she is amazing. Tom did my fill, he is amazing! I have no words to express how truly happy I am with Dr. K and his staff. They are all so nice! I love them, I love them, I love them! I can hardly wait for the BBQ. What an idea!

Tom put me on soft foods for the next 24hours so I am off to find something...here we go with my fill. It's so funny I always feel like I just got my band after a fill, like I just started, a second third...well my eighth chance to get it together again...weird of me.

later Banditos!

I hope that I didn't make anyone feel bad because I shared my weight loss...that was not my intent. I am just excited.

If I was down 20, I would be excited as well!!! No worries slow losers, it is going to come down. I just know it!

OMG why would anyone feel bad???? BE EXCITED!

Speaking only for myself, I know I have personal issues and issues that relate to my insecurities and doubts ingrained in me from years of not being told anything different. Sooo... therapy helps.

Oh a reunion...HOW FUN! I'll have to try to make it to that!

Okay...after much discussion and schedule/rescheduling...I canceled with my follow-up doctor here in Oklahoma and made an appointment with Dr. K for a fill on May 9th!! I'm sooooo excited!! I figured it up and it was going to cost me more to drive 1 1/2 hours (GAS...OMG!:tongue2:) plus the cost of my follow-up which was $350! I found a non-stop flight from OKC to Denver for like $160...Roundtrip!!! Hello!!!! I'm a big goober :w00t: to not have checked it out before! My husband told me he'd rather me see Dr. K anyway....and I feel the same way!! I just can't wait!!!!!!!!

I'm in need of some major restriction....FAST!!!

Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Lap~I have tried Muscle Milk before, I just can't drink those. I don't know why but for some reason I stopped drinking my Atkins Advantage shakes. I have them on my list for this weekend's shopping. Tom gave me a great idea. Since I seem to be hungrier in the evening, he said to try a protien shake after dinner. Natalie also gave me some great advice. She said to have Breakfast within an hour of waking up and to have three meals and two Snacks throughout the day. Usually I will have lunch and dinner, then I get hungry after dinner. So with my fill and some good advice, I hope I am on my way again! I am back to walking 3 miles a day and working out a the gym.

Amieru~I am sooo happy for you that you are coming to CO to have your fill. It worked out well for you!

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
