Dr. Gerald Kirshenbaum - Considering Dr. Kirshenbaum

Yay to all you soon-to-be bandsters!!

As some of you know I am struggling a bit right now with my weight loss. I called Marilyn at Dr K's office today to see if I could get in touch with Paula (the nutritionist) and within 10 minutes Paula called me back to discuss my issues. I am one of Dr K's "older" (timewise, not age) bandsters she said and she is thrilled to help me figure out what is going on with me. Just one more thing to re-enforce my decision in choosing Dr K as my band surgeon. He and his staff are the best! :clap2:

Just wanted to share with you guys. :welldoneclap:

DrewsLou...I think that you are doing great! How long has it been since you leveled off? I hope that I do as well as you have. It's also good that you get great support from Dr. K's office. Sometimes I need to have my "hand held" through things. (support or needy? hummmmm:confused: ) Hope that their advice works for you!

Hey Everyone! How about that price for Dr. K !! I was going to Mexico but he kept me in the states with that price. I thanked him personally for that yesterday and told him I would normally be going to Mexico to Dr. Ortiz but he kept me in the states with that price.

I'm so excited for us all. I'm starting my detox tomorrow. Need to shop today for some products and Proteins.< /p>

I'm staying here when I get to Colorado. Marilyn recommends it says it is close to several restaurants, the hospital and to tell them I am there for surgery when I make my reservations.

DrewsLou, that would feel like a long time to go without losing. (I'm happy when I don't gain in 4 weeks!:biggrin1: ) But looking at your posts it looks like you're pretty active now, so perhaps you're building muscle. Did the Dr. office give you some good advice? Hopefully!

Lapdancer, you'll like Parker, it's cute. I wouldn't mind living there at all. Your consultation was/is 5 days before mine.(I'm the 23rd) I hope that I am able to get a date as quickly as you are. I would be thrilled to get this done before summer. Here's to us! :welldoneclap:

Paula told me to track everything I put into my mouth as well as all excercise for 2 weeks. I do that already on www.sparkpeople.com and then I will fax it to her and she will see what she can figure out for me.

Welcome Woofay! Dr. K. is very nice. Not to worry...

Sunnysea - I will staying in a village 40 minutes south of Cancun airport. It isn't Playa del Carmen, but I'm not sure if it is north or south of there. My cousin just bought a condo there. I understand you just climb over a sand dune and you are at the beach. Yum!!!!!!!!!

If I like it I'll go more often.

Smiles,

Lap Dancer,

We stayed right down the street from that hotel at the Hampton Inn. I requested a medical rate and we got a discount! We had a refrigerator and microwave in our room, whiched helped a lot for the day after surgery. There is a big variety of restaurants there, even ones that have Soup and such. Its less then 1/2 mile from the hospital. I really liked the area. :clap2: I'm sure you will too!

DrewsLou....that's great that Paula was so responsive!! Hopefully she can help you figure things out! Are you measuring your food? ? I never really have...I just kind of eyeball things, and I wonder if I'm eating a lot more than I think I am. Right now I definitely still feel restriction, but I'm not losing very much, if at all, so I'm frustrated too. Although one thing that did bring me comfort was that someone said sometimes your body will plateau no matter what you do just b/c it needs to adjust to the weight loss. But like you said, I still want to see that scale MOVE!! :welldoneclap:

Hang in there! And if you want to be journal buddies, PM me!

I agree with Woofay. Are you clothes fitting better? How about your measurements? I'll bet your body is building muscle and getting used to all that activity. Once it realizes that "this is how it's gonna be", I'll bet you start losing again!

My 2 cents:

DrewsLou - I am going to go with everyone else.. as active as you are your body is probably exchanging fat for muscle and muscle weighs more.. but do keep us posted as to what is said after you fax your stuff to Paula.

Woofay - welcome! You will really like Dr. K! I was really nervous about my first consultation with him as well but between him and his staff they totally put me at ease and answered all my questions.. and I had a whole page and a half of questions! He took his time and was very detailed and used words that I could understand. He has pictures and a model too! I am so glad that I am going with Dr. K!

Lap Dancer - Yippie! You're getting close! What products did you end up gettiing?

Hope everyone is having a wonderful evening.. I am so happy that I found this site! I could not wait to get out fo work so that I could really sit down and check out what's going on with everyone! The excitement and support from (exspecially this thread) is the best! Everyone has made me feel welcome and even though I have not been banded yet - I feel so connected! Many of you have answered some questions and helped me out on things that I feel I should have known how to do and never once did any make me feel like an idiot. The openiness and willingness to share experiences and feelings just blows me away! Thanks again to everyone!

I had surgery 4 days ago, my incisions are just now getting to the point where I can touch them without a lot of pain. Many of you have said that you can feel your port. What's it supposed to feel like? I have pressed on my "port" incision and can not feel anything... Did any of you have an X-ray after surgery or do a barium swallow?? I can chug liquids like before and I have even eaten frozen yogert and ice cream without feeling "restricted". Do you think its possible that he forgot to put my band in??? :omg: I am not hungry, but smelling food makes my mouth water... My mind is just running wild....

That's so funny that you say you wonder if he forgot to put the band in. I felt the same way! Your port is probably a bit below your port incision and will be tender, if you go exploring be gentle! I did not have any xrays or barium swallows after surgery. As long as you are on liquids you probably won't feel any kind of restriction. Take it easy and don't rush it, your tummy needs to heal so your band heals firmly in place. Last thing you want now is to PB! I found that broth made from "better than boulion" helped with my food cravings, it smelled yummy and tasted even better.

Hope this helps! :D

Hey Drewslou -

I will get some of the better than boulion. Did you use any of the box Soups? In the past switching from hot to cold liquids helps the cravings too. I plan to stock up. It is so exciting.

Tater is April 13th

I am April 16th

LapDancer April 17th

We'll have to compare recovery notes. Of course, I am the oldest patient here. Smiles,

It's like a club!!!

I tried a few organic boxed soups and they were okay but I preferred the better than boullion.

It IS a club.... the Dr K club!!!

I look forward to getting together with you locals and maybe I can meet up with you out-of-staters sometime when your here!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
