What a relief.....

I went to Dr metz's office today and talked to his PA. She said I had just irritated my pounch (hence the pain) I tried to explain to her it wasn't the usual "OMG, I'm stuck" pain. She said she hears these complaints all the time. She said the shoulder/back pain was just referred pain from the irritation .

She even gave me another fill. .4 which brings me to 7.4. When I was laying on the table she goes, "Oh my, what a large hernia" I told her it has grown since Dr Metz saw it last. She said she is going to talk to him about repairing it (much bigger and it is going to impede my port) We talked about me getting the panniulectomy done at the same time. I don't know if anything is going to come of this.... but she had me make an appt for 4 weeks to see the doctor. I know he said he wil not do it til I'm a 35 BMI (I'm 44 now) but he may feel it has grown enough to take medical action. I also am fairly sure BC won't pay for the panniulectomy... so his possible willingness to operate on me may be a moot point anyway.

I am just so happy. I had visions of having to have my band emptied/removed. Whew.... feel like I dodged a bullet here.

That's awesome Julie. I'm glad it wasn't anything major. Good luck on the insurance coverage.

Well, I am off in the morning to Denver. Surgery is on Thursday. I've got nothing else to focus on now. All the work is done. I don't want to have surgery again, but I need to do this. I just found out I have another skin cancer on my face and have to have that removed in a little over a week after surgery. At least they put you out for surgery. I am just hoping I packed everything and that I can find some wool felt.

Good luck to you, Paracelsus.

My surgery had to be delayed until July (it was scheduled for tomorrow). Hopefully my dermatologist can figure out my rash and get it under control by then.

Julie, I am so happy to hear that they are considering doing both procedures at the same time. I wonder if it has occured to your Doc that doing the Pannis surgery might well bring you into the 35 BMI he wants you to be under? I have my fingers crossed for you - you have lived with that &*#$(&*(@ hernia FAR too long!

So I went shopping today because I am in desperate need of clothes. I had some mixed feelings but it all ended ok. I went to Fashion Bug and looked around a lot, but was getting discouraged, mostly because their jeans aren't sized normal. They are color coded and numbered different. I guess they are trying to give you a better fit, but it just gets frustrating when I haven't measured my waist in a month so I know it's changed a bit. Anyway I was on my way out of the store when I saw tis great dress! I took a 24 and a 22, oping that the 22 would fit, but half expecting to still be in a 24. I need to shop more. I had to have the clerk get a 20!!!!!! YAY!!!! :blushing: Plus is was on sale, so it was marked to 39.00 and then I had a 50% off coupon so I got a $50 dress for $18!!!!

Then I found some jeans at Walmart, and bought some bright red high heels to go with my new black and white dress. I did find out that I am still in a size 24 jeans, cuz my tummy won't budge! I swear, I have lost less inches off the middle than any other part of my body. My legs are really slimming down, so I kinda look funny in jeans with the legs all baggy.

Marie I know how you feel. I have had the same problem with jeans my whole life. I always say jeans look like clown pants on me :sneaky:. Now that I have lost some weight, it has gotten even worse. If you really want a pair of jeans can I suggest the mens department?? They seem to have not so wide thighs in them. Back when I was young (like 17-18, and embarrased as heck to have to shop there.... mainly beacause I had to ask for help, thus drawing attention to my big self!!!) I got my jeans in mens stores. I guess that's why I stopped wearing jeans 20 years ago!!!

I am not out of the woods yet  His PA said she would discuss the possibilty with him. He may still stick to his guns though. Also... I will live with this hernia (though it is really quite painful. as well as annoying) if I can't get the panni done at the same time. Which might be an unhill battle getting the insurance co to pay. Plus.... I don't even know if it would be possible to do this any time soon, since with my MIL's cancer and driving her around to chemo/shopping etc. I also would have no one to take care of Kayleigh. She is starting school in a couple of weeks (Wahhhh... my baby) but I know the plastic surgery is hard on you and usually requires quite a bit of chair/bed rest. Especailly with my history of post op issues. I just really don't know if it is doable :sneaky: Though I am still hoping this will all come together in a good way.

Getting rid of the stomach would bring me down to 100 pounds lost, so it would take me under the 35 BMI (I did point this out to him last time I saw him) especailly when he told me my stomach itself is at least 25 pounds!!!!! :crying:

I guess I will just have to wait til my July 12 appt to see what he has to say.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
