Imitation crab meat! any ideas/suggestions.

My nutrition counselor said I'm not eating enough protein, so she suggested incorporating imitation crab meat, but I have no idea how to prepare it. Do I eat it right out of the bag? cook it? cold? hot? warm? I've always had fresh crab, this is my first time with imitation crab meat.

These are great ideas!

I make a dish by cooking up some spaghetti squash, then sauteing it with some garlic, then I add some frozen stir-fry vegetables, imitation crab and shrimp. I'm not sure the actual nutritional values of it, but it is delicious. It is like a seafood pasta, but with spaghetti squash instead of pasta.

Bigdaddyjoe! Fancy seeing you here lol that's a great idea! Thanks for sharing!

Hey PeacockMama, no problem! I came up with it myself, but it's too good not to share!

You could try sautéing it with some green onion, garlic, salt & pepper, then add some lite cream cheese to the mix. Use that mixture to fill some wonton wrappers and bake it off to make a crab Rangoon.

Thanks for the suggestion, I tried it tonight and it was amazing! I didn't have any green onion, so used onion powder instead.

Ooh Anniemay, I had low carb crab-cakes a few days ago....YUM!

I believe that imatation crab meat is made out of Pollack fish. It is really good anyway you want to eat it. Cold or hot, you can make a great crab dip or make a seafood crepe. Any recipie for crab meat can use fake crab.
