Shopping for a Dr. in Mexico

Recommended Posts

Hi, When I called the band maker Inamed, all I got was a run around when I mentioned Mexican Doctors. All they wanted was to inform me how many local Doctors in my zip code did lapbanding. How do you find out who's the best Doctor is or clinic that has the least complacations? In Mexico or the USA. Help!

I did a search for Mexican lap band doctors on the Internet. Then when I came to a site, I read everything on it. The next step was finding an unaffiliated site (such as obesityhelp.com and lapbandtalk.com) for another opinion.

I really lucked out because Dr. Rumbaut's site (gastricband.com) was the first site I found.

DR. ACEVES is wonderful!! <.4 complication rate and those were just minor. Great bedside manner...sweet as can be! Great staff all speak english. Great hospital and hotel. Top of the line care and facilities.... i have worked in hospitals for 20 years, and yet i would go back to him for any other G.I related problems or surgeries!

There are lots of great Doctors for the Lapband. I went to Dr. Ortiz in Mexico for two basic reasons. 1) I was able to pay and not wait 2) He was my second choice for a Doctor untill I spoke with some of his banders.

Maybe if you set up a list of what you want in a Doctor and keep asking questions you will find your answer. Do your homework, make an informed decision and do not put it off.

My big regret is having to wait, life keeps getting better.

I've been researching this for five years. It's finally my turn...Jan 29. Now that it's real and almost here, it's a little scary. But no turning back now. I did choose Dr. Ortiz. Money, place, timing, etc all just fell into place for him to be the one. I did have many good choices though.

I am so thankful for this board. I don't post much, but it has always been exactly what I needed just when I needed it.

I had my surgery done by Dr Huacuz. I did not have a bad experience - but not a good one either. If I had it to do again I would not have been so cheap about it and would not have chosen the surgeon based on price!. I can't complain because I have not had any real problems. My fill doctor said my band looks good - but it is placed low so my pouch is bigger than normal. Everyone has their own view on this whole thing and I'm happy some of you had a better experience with Dr Huacuz. But, I would not recommend him.

I went to Dr. Arturo Rodriguez in Monterrey and have nothing but WONDERFUL things to say about him and his staff. He is awesome! His site is www.thebariatric.com . My surgery was $7900. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Dr. Rodriguez was high on my list. Like I said, I have been researching this for five years and have heard nothing bad about him either. I picked Dr. Ortiz because my sister inlaw lives in San Diego and coming from Oklahoma, made me feel a little more safe having extended family close by.

I am so glad to be here, it just brings the most joy to have people respond to me having surgery. Thanks for asking kw...

I leave on Jan 28, surgery on the 29th. More afraid of the flight than the surgery, lol.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
