Greetings June Sleevers! Just a quick update. I was sleeved on June 3rd. The surgery was much easier then I had anticipated. It was much easier then when I had my gallbladder out! The 1st week post op I was allowed clear liquids...the 2nd week was full liquids. Tomorrow I get to have a soft scrambled egg and am sooo looking forward to it! Actually I get to progress to pureed foods. I am looking forward to more flavors and tastes. Since before surgery I have not been hungry. It is weird, but I am glad. I have been able to drink, no, make that sip, 70 oz of Water almost every day. I seem to only get in 40 grams of protein...still have a ways to get to the 70 grams a day that the doc wants. I am glad this group has been here...it provided me with good info and support before surgery!

I was sleeved on the 17th and wondering what you are doing for pureed food?

I also love Tuna with crakers. So I tryed ritz. Just bite small and chew well. The tuna makes the craker soggy . It didn't hurt my stomach at all. Tuna and crakers is one of the main things I eat that stays well in my stomach. Plus I can only have 2 or 3 and I'm full lol...

Had my day on the table on 24 June. Everything went fine but today my bowels have decided they have been ignored and so have spent a lot of time on the loo with a feeling of Constipation but with diarrhoea present as well. Hoping this is just a small adjustment.

If they are sugar free? You should be ok to use. Have you tried isopure mixed with crystal light lemonade? I did that with the blueberry/raspberry & I LOVVVE IT!!! You don't taste the Protein after taste & it's so refreshing. Just my opinion. Congrats on joining the losing team!!! Yeah for us!!!

Hey everyone~ Checking in hoping to help some of you who can't stomach to Protein.

Yesterday was a week post-op and my drs office called to check on me. I have been MISERABLE trying to get the Protein in' date=' feeling totally Thanksgiving full, like all the time... bloated, FULL, nauseated, and not getting in the liquids either because I was so full I coun't take any more in. I was doing one Protein shake in the am and it took like 2.5 hours to get it in, then MISERABLE for the who day. ugh

I spoke with a NUT and we discovered together that I have an intolerance to the whey in all the Proteins. I have always been borderline lactose intolerant, and couldn't take real milk as a baby, had to have soy everything. She said something was terribly wrong with the way I had been functioning and took me off all the Protein shakes. She gave me permission to use egg drop Soup and to blenderize any Soups to get all the bits out -- chicken noodle, Tomato, chicken tortilla w rice.

MY LIFE CHANGED OVERNIGHT! OMG, I am doing so much better, functioning as I finally should be! Getting the milk whey out has changed everything. I'm sipping a blenderized cup of chicken tortilla Soup right now and had egg drop for Breakfast. Lots of room now to get my fluids in too. She said aim for 30 grams of protein for now, don't stress about 50. It is SO much easier! I am so thankful that I finally said something, that I finally said "enough is enough, this isn't right!".

So maybe those of you who are not tolerating the shakes have something similar to me? What has your toleration of milk products been before surgery? If it was iffy like me, maybe the whey is the problem... Call your NUT!![/quote']

Having the exact same issue. I just sip abit of the premiere protein and bam ready to go hit the head

Oh that sounds so good...I'm sitting here in the hospital still, not Hungary, but a little scared to even try to eat the Jello they gave me...was anyone else nervous to try out the sleeve?

I was terrified to try the jell-o. I think I took a couple of sips of chicken broth and sips of some pink lemonade (pretty sure it was Crystal Light or something along the lines of that). I finally opened the jell-o the second go round and had like one bite and didn't eat anymore. I was in and out after surgery (I was sleeved June 17th) and before they let me go home the next day, so I was barely awake enough to even drink/eat. Also, I'm sure they have told you, but make sure you sit up and eat/drink. Middle of the night, mouth was dry, so I took a sip of the pink lemonade and a few seconds later puked it up. My mistake, but I was half asleep, so since then, I have made sure I am sitting up while drinking!

Oh no none mentioned anything about how to sit when I drink...I'm kinda half inclined here and because I don't want to push the sleeve too much have been taking tiny tiny sips....but if I do try the Jello I'll make sure to sit up properly, good advice!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
