feb 2013 sleevers weigh in

Recommended Posts

I'll go first - I was sleeved on 2/22 and have not experienced a stall yet (keeping fingers crossed). My starting weight was 335. I am not 298. If you are uncomfortable listing your weight, your BMI will also work.

Finally... a male with about the same starting weight as I :-)

As far as stalls.... not sure why folks fret about it. If you know you're not over-eating, then keep doing what you're doing. When you're stalled and still eating right, you're most likely losing inches.

For those of you that are experiencing stalls' date=' please list your starting weight and when you experienced your stall. I have a sneaky suspicion on what causes these stalls, but need a little input before I spout off.

Pre op diet Start weight 230. Surgery weight 219. Current weight 204. Surgery date 2/19. I stalled at 210-211 for about 3 weeks. My Dr says because i am at the low end of the need to loose spectrum (i dont know if i agree with that statement), that i will prob only loose 3-5 lbs per month.

I'm sorry, but losing 44 lbs in 6 weeks leaves no room for a stall. That's incredible weight loss. Thats 6 lbs better than my effort and I'm losing 4 lbs a week!

I just want to say great job to everyone. Today i am feeling so depressed. The scale hasnt moved, its not been long but already i am worried. I need smaller clothes but am afraid to buy them. What if i gain the weight back and now my clothes dont fit again. I can hear my mother in the back of my mjnd telling me 8 weeks out and only 37 lbs, i told this wasnt going to do anything for u and next ur just gonna gain it back everyone does. I am waiting to fail just like always. I needed to vent these feelings cause getting rid of them helps and i hope by not being afraid to put it out there and ask if anyone else fears these things or for some helpful words, i cant get my heade straight and not sabatoge myself

I understand your feelings and completely feel your pain but only 37 pounds is not what you should be saying.that's an average of almost five pounds per week. that is a very good number. I am 7 weeks post op and have lost 26 pounds, 10 of which was from the pre op diet. I think everyone fears that they will fail and that this will have all been for nothing, but thinking like that you will only sabotage yourself. I stalled for almost 3 weeks and then the scale started slowly moving again. be positive and know that you will continue to lose, and don't let anyone else discourage you. as a matter of fact if they're not being supportive tell them not to say anything at all! Keep your head up!!

I didn't realize 37 in 8 weeks was bad....especially for a female.

I was 450 when I started my program, 394 5 days before surgery which was 2/12, and have been stalled between 355 and 359 for the last 10 days.

Sleeved on 2/5' date=' including pre-op I have lost 45 lbs. Probably 25 lbs since surgery although it has tapered off the last couple of weeks. Last week I lost 2 lbs. starting exercise regimen today and hopefully the couch to 5 k program. I would appreciate any tips on how to get the most from this wonderful 'tool' especially any diet tips to help melt more off. Thanks![/quote']

Stay off carbs... I was at a 7 week stall. Finally realized every carb was sticking to me keeping me from loosing. No more carbs for me!

40lbs in 8 weeks is not a stall! You are doing great. You are losing an average of 5 lbs a week...who cares which week it comes off!

A special Thanks to all you for your input. I am still gathering results and will post my findings this weekend. For those of you who are discouraged, you have to remember that you are losing at a rate almost three times faster than you could put it on (pre-op). It is a "magical" surgery, but doesn't happen over night. Speaking for myself, I'll be lucky to hit my goal weight this year, but when I do, it's for good.

Please do not get discouraged if you are not ready to buy a new wardrobe a couple months after surgery. As far as I'm concerned, the sugery wipes the slate clean. From here, it's up to us to develop better eating habits, while incorporating exercise. Below is a short list of foods to avoid at all costs...if you are eating anything below, stop immeidately!

"Death Foods"

Any cold drink served at your favorite coffee shop. These drinks are more lethal than cake, as the body doesn't have to metabolize liquid fat.

Anything carbonated. Yes, I know it sucks, but the carbonation can stretch your new stomach. Avoid anything with bubbles, including diet sodas.

Anything fried

Anything with refined sugar

"Diet" or "Low Cal" Desserts. Empty foods that contain high levels of salt and "lab rat" sugar

Fast food. Expensive, non nuttrional garbage.

Suggestions:

Swiitch to diet or non-calorie ice tea in lieu of soft drinks. Lipton Diet Ice tea contains no sugar or calories and only has 2% salt.

Yougurt is filling and generally contains about 100 calories. A perfect snack.< /p>

Protein Shakes. I know, they suck....but if you buy a Bullet or a Ninja, you can make tasty drinks at home. I start every day with a home made shake.

Nuts. They contain "good fats"...eat a few as a snack. They are crunchy and fulfilling to eat.

Make sure to take a Multi Vitamin every day. I also take B12 for energy. It helps!

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
