January Bandsters???

I'm facing a similiar problem. I haven't told anyone either. Other then my parents, my two sisters, my sister's daughter, and one person at work who also had the surgery and was my inspiration for getting it, no one else knows. Not my brothers, their wives, my sister's husband, or any of my other nieces and nephews. Although, I do have one other niece that I should tell for her benefit. I just know that the more people that know, the more likely it will get around to others - which I don't want. I'm suprised my family has managed to keep this secret for as long as they have. Normally it goes in one ear and right out the mouth to the nearest family member. I'll admit, that at least they keep it within the family. But typically, if one knows...we all know.

Anyway, my mother's good friend has consistently complimented me on my weight loss. She was the first person, outside of those who know, to even mention that she noticed a difference. Her daughter is as heavy, if not heavier then me and she wants me to talk to her about what I'm doing to lose weight.

Personally, I know that it irritated me when my parents constantly discussed my weight with me...it would have really ticked me off to know that they were discussing it with their friends. Either way, she keeps asking me if her daughter calls me, will I tell her what I'm doing. I've told her yes, and then I spend the rest of the time alternating between hoping that she won't call me to hoping that she does for her own sake.

Hi Inner: I can see how you have a moral dilemma on your hands. I'm sure you feel you want to give your friend's daughter the benefit of your experience. I'm not sure what I'd do in your situation.

I totally know how you feel. I have several people that really need to know about the band that I work with, and the fact that our insurance will cover it if they meet the 40 BMI (which they do). They are desparate to lose weight and notice my difference, I feel a moral responsibility to tell them, however, I know that it will be come known with my co-workers and my boss. I don't want my boss to think I lied to her about my surgery when I told her I was have hernia repair, which I did have one. Anyhow, I feel horrible sometimes.

I sometimes almost blurt it out to them, but I force myself to stay quiet. I'm just not ready to share. So I know what you are going thru - its not easy.

I'm sitting here in tears, I can't believe it, the Lap Band really works! I weighed this morning and I weighed 189.6 - I tried for 6 years to get below the 190's doing Low Carb, and I couldn't do it. I have the Lap Band for 3 1/2 months and I've done it! I've broken out of the 190's! I'm so happy and so excited, and I have no more fears of failing! Iknow my little tool will help me, I don't question it any longer!

I have not been in the 180's since 1997 or longer. I'm just in shock, I stepped on the scales about 50 times this morning, I thought they could be broken. I felt a little fatter and I thought no way could I weigh 189 - but I do, I tested it over and over and over, and then put clothes on and tested it again - it went up to 190.8 after the clothes, but naked, I'm down to 189.6, and thats what counts!

So, if anyone felt the earth shake this morning, that was me - jumping up and down - screaming and running around the house saying "The band works, the band works", my dh was laughing and said, "your going to wake the neighbors" - LOL. I'm sure I looked really cute (NOT) running around the house in my b-day suite -

Good for you!!!! It's nice to reach those mini goals. I can't believe I've lost over 60 lbs since my surgery, it's amazing what it can do! Keep up the good work!

I had a NSV yesterday when one of the receptionists asked if my boobs got smaller, I guess they did, but now people are noticing. Also this morning I tried on a bunch of old clothes that didn't used to fit....well now they do!!! Some are snug, but they will definetly be wearable by summer!

Is it possible that she is considering it? I ask because before I started researching, I had never even heard of it . . . .

Lynn

I thought about that, but my sister in law is one person that would not do good with the lap band, just my personal oppinion. She loves her food and doesn't want to give it up. She has made that statement (of course, its probably a cover up to how she feels and would like to lose weight). I don't know if she is considering it or not, but I really don't think so because she has never talked about it, until the other day, when she asked if I had it done. She is just suspicious on how I'm losing all this weight, and is noticing how little i'm eating. We go out to eat with my in-laws every Friday, so they notice my eating habits. I'm just going to ignore them and continue what I'm doing. They can think what they want, but they will not get a straight answer from me. My DH said if they ask him, he is going to say, "have you asked Tonya", if they say "yes", he'll ask them what I said, when they repeat my answer he'll say "well, I guess you got the answer then". And leave it at that.

Congratulations Sun!!! I know these milestones are really exciting. How many times did you jump off and on the scale to make sure it was right??!!

Sun: It sounds like you're eventually going to tell your extended family about your surgery, and if you can help someone else because of your success, that's great. I made a conscious decision not to tell, but I don't have to sit and eat with my extended family on a regular basis. If I did, I could NEVER pull this secret off. I eat WAY too slowly and WAY too little for people with any intelligence not to catch on. I also had the added issue of being self-pay ($16,000) that I REALLY didn't want to discuss.

Sunshine2-Good for you! How wonderful! I just love the band.

shues138- What a wonderful NSV! That is great!

I just wanted to check in with everyone. It has been 3 months and 2 days since I was banded and I have lost 38 pounds. I am addicted to exercising. I really love going to the gym and almost feel bad on days when I can't get there. Anyway I had my 2nd fill this past Thursday. I have a total of 1.5cc's in my 4 cc band. My doctor is on the conservative side, but as long as I keep losing, it's OK. I am very happy with the band. Have a good night- Gigi

Sunshine....That's fantastic!!!! I had tears in my eyes I was so happy for you! Congrats on your decision on what to tell the sis-in-law and kudos to your DH for supporting your decision....I've got a DH like that too!

Does anyone else have any NSV's to share? I love to hear them. The best one I've felt good about so far is when my 11 year old son comes up to hug me and says OMG you're getting so little!

I got ONE! It's not as exciting, but I've been studying for my Comps for the past 2 weeks, and haven't seen my classmates regularly. I walked into class this morning to take a comp, and one friend of mine actually said (After the exam) "You are literally melting away."

Talk about a confidence booster!

My mini goals are breaking the 10's barrier. 270,260,250,240,(238). It seems as thought 239-234 is a breeze, then 234-229 is a butt kicker! It's always those last few pounds to your goal.. My overall goal? 184, becuase the lowest I've ever gotten on my own was 185... I COULDN'T BREAK IT, but hopefully I will now.

Keep on bandin!

NSV's -

1. I can cross my legs

2. When I take a bath, my butt doesn't touch both sides of the tub

3. I can wear a size L top now, in the regular section, I'm out of the Womens

4. I have more energy, and am waking up before the alarm

5. Losing weight has made me crave exercise, I cannot miss a session or I go crazy (I was at the gym last night until 10:30 to make sure I got my exercise in)

6. food no longer controls me

7. I can push a plate back without eating it all - no longer belong to the "clean plate club".

8. My kids keep telling me how skinny their mom is

9. I actually don't look all that bad in pictures any longer - before, all I noticed was my fat hips, now I don't.

10. I no longer feel like a failure

I feel the same way, I actually can't wait to get to the gym! I'm working out now 6 days a week (sometimes 2 x's per day). I feel so good! I'm down a total of 60 lbs now (weighed this morning at 188). My goal is to get to 178 by June 22nd (my doc's appointment), and he is going to use me in his 2008 calendar. I'm going to be a calendar girl. lol.

Congratulations on 38lbs GONE FOREVER!

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
