January Bandsters???

Recommended Posts

I have no pre-op diet...WHY??? Uh, is that bad? Why am I nervous?

I wouldn't be nervous about no pre-op diet, I've read where a lot of people didn't have one at all. So, not sure that it matter that much. Different docs are different, so just follow your docs orders and I know you will be fine!

Your surgery date is getting closer!!! You & Kellie will be the leader of the pack, all of us mid January and Late January bandsters will be looking to you two for advice, so take good notes!

That's why I have been in the December thread. I like seeing people before and after surgery. I had a slight crisis last week when one of the people was going for surgery on the 5th and I didn't see her until yesterday. Of course my mind is racing. We are 100% so far...whew!

My sugery is scheduled with Dr. Kuri on Jan 9 - As far as the pre-op diet goes, Dr. Kuri reccommends the protien diet if your BMI is over 45. So maybe that is why some have to do it and some not. Anyways, looking forward to checking in with all the other Jan bandsters as we go along our journey!

Hello Januray Bandsters!

I just wanted to check in! I didn't exercise today. I feel like I should be doing something. I can't start my preop yet, so what do I do to prepare? I have to come here to at least read posts, but I feel like I should be doing something.

Maybe I should go for a walk? I am bummed. I was supposed to be leaving this Sunday to get banded. BOOOHOOOO

Hope you all had a great day! Audree

Hi, this is my first post.

I am scheduled to be banded January 9th. I have been given a pre-op diet but haven't been doing it at all. It looks like I really should get myself on it and stick with it - I have a BMI of 49.:phanvan

Hi All!!

I will be banded on 01/25/2007 by Dr. Kirshenbaum in Denver. I booked our airfare yesterday, so it's a done deal. I am excited, yet nervous.... I haven't had my phone consult with the Dr. yet. That is scheduled for 12/19. I'll find out about pre-op diets then and when I talk to the nutritionist.

I will probably be doing my fills with one of the Dr.'s at Dean Care in Madison. Talked to them the other day and am just waiting for the paperwork to come in the mail so I can be established as their patient for follow up. I'll probably fly to Denver for the first or second fill with Dr. K, but after that use the Dr's closer to home.

Woo hoo!!

Hey Everyone!!!

Put me on the list for banding 1-10-07! I, too, am very excited. Good luck to us all, I know we can succeed!

I met with the dr last week and have a ton of pre-op appointments in the next few weeks - lab work, nutritionist, etc. The dr wants me to start sampling different Protein drinks to get an idea of what I like. He also wants me to start getting habits set up now like walking, no soda, etc. Also, he suggested a low carb diet until surgery as the first place where weight is lost is the stomach and that can make surgery easier.

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE! I am glad we are in this together.

Hi Everyone ~

I have been looking at this site for several months, but this is my first post. My name is Lynn and I am in Houston. I am scheduled to be banded on 1-12-07 and am very excited, but also very nervous. My insurance does not cover WLS so I will be self-pay. $15,000 is so much money, but I keep trying to convince myself that after I lose the weight, then I won't even think about that. I hope I am right! I look forward to being part of the January group!

Lynn

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
