I am shocked at how well I am going! I can take regular drinks and not tiny sips. I am drinking 8-10 oz of Protein in about 30 mines....the sleeve spasams are better each hour! I sat and had a glass if lemonade with one if my friends and drank it like a normal person!

I had my surgery Monday, and came home today. The first day was decent, but the second day was more painful, and I came down with a fever. I had the leak test Tuesday morning, and it showed no leaks, but my fever concerned them. I cried myself to sleep Tuesday night. With the tummy pain, and the fever, I felt horrible. I woke up this morning and felt better. My temp was 99 which was down from 101. I've been home since 11am, and am feeling ok. I'm on Clear Liquids until Saturday. My stomach cramps when I drink, so that's been a challenge. I'm on liquid Loratab, which helps with the pain. I get to go back on Protein Drinks, yogurts and puddings Saturday. I'm hanging in there :)

How dare you feel good!!!!!

Everyone heals differently.I'm glad you're feeling well post op.

I had a liver biopsy done during surgery as well. Wonder if some of my pain is that too?? Doc assured me my surgery went just fine though, nothing unusual, no complications.

Ok. For those of you who are finding it hard to get in all of your liquids, the diet my surgeon has perscribed for the two weeks after surgery has been doing very well for me. Of course, Follow your own surgeons directions but I hope this may help some of you that are having difficulty getting your liquids in.

Instructions:

1. Consume 4 ounces of liquid per hour. (1 ounce every 15 minutes as tolerated)

Include 2 ounces from Clear Liquids list and 2 ounces from Full Liquids list hourly.

Do this every hour you are awake (at least 12 hours) to prevent dehydration.

2. As part of your liquids, include 8 ounces of a Protein supplement per day in 1 ounce portions.

3. Do not begin eating solid foods until directed to do so by your surgeon.

Here is a list of items that my surgeon suggested:

Clear liquid:

*Fat Freem broth or Bullion (cubes, granules, or packets)

*sugar free Jello

*Sugar Free Popsicles (None with fruit bits at this stage as the bits could cause harm to sleeve)

*Water and sugar free Water flavor packets 10 calories or less- i.e. Wyler's Light, Crystal Light, Kool-aid.

* Decaffinated Tea & coffee (can use splenda, equal, stevia, or sweet-n-low)

Full Liquids:

*Protein Supplement of choice

*No Sugar added Carnation Breakfast Essentials

*Mashed Potatoes (thin, no lumps)

*Low Sodium V-8 juice (only during this 2 week phase)

*No sugar added frozen yogurt (no fruit bits)

*sugar-free custard or pudding (thinned)

* Light yogurt (no fruit or nuts)

*Skim, 1%, or 2% milk, rice milk, soy milk, Mootopia HEB Brand High Protein Milk (Probably only my fellow Texans will know about the Mootpia!)

*Cream of Wheat, Cream of Rice, Malt-o-Meal (thinned)

*Blended, Strained, Creamed Soups ( Blended cream of potato made with skim milk, no lumps) (this is very yummy)

Foods NOT Allowed:

*Sodas (not even Sprite)

*Solid Food: until directed by surgeon

*fruit juice (my surgeon recommends that you no longer drink fruit juice)

*smoothies or Milkshakes (also never recommended)

*Stews or chunky soups: (until directed by surgeon)

* Honey or Syrup (don't add chocolate syrup to milk unless it's surgar free)

*Sugar or candy (Sweets of any kind)

*Protein Bars, Beef Jerky, and Pork rinds

Hope this helps some of you!! I know it's working out pretty well for me, my only problem is staying awake long enough during the day to get continual liquids!

Thanks for the tip! I have to wait until tomorrow before I can have full liquids, but your plan sounds great!

What did they say the fever was from?

They seem to not know or care! Great docs but hus nurse seems a bit bitchy! Had him paged last night over 101 per orders. He told ne ti take tylenol and call the next morning. Had a terrible night with hard chilling and fever only breaking for a while before spiking. Bud nurse says "its not uncommon for wls patients to run a fever...keep walking" fever coming back tonight and I am feeling like crying! I feel so good other than that and hunger. I am sick already of sweet Protein shakes and water!

What did they say the fever was from?

I had a similar fever today and I called my docs answering service and left a message. When he called me back, I told him that I had a fever of 101, then 102 and so on. He said that since none of my incisions were swollen or abnormally red that the cause of the fever was because sometimes the anesthesia can cause Fluid to gather in the lungs making it hard to take full breaths. He said to just use my incentive spirometer ( that thing with the hose that you blow in and the blue hockey puck lookin thing goes up and down) and set a goal at 1800 or 2000 and try to do it more often than once an hour. Let me tell you folks, this helped me so much!! Within an hour, I started to feel better and my fever went down about 2 hours later. He said you kind of have to force those lungs to pop back open.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
