How long were you off work?

Recommended Posts

Hi All!

I am a newbie to the forums, but I have just been approved for the VSG and have a surgery date scheduled for 3/19. I searched for a thread with this topic, but didn't find anything so I apologize if I am duplicating something that is already posted elsewhere.

I am curious as to how long everyone was off work. I know healing times vary from person to person, but I would like to know what everyone's average was. I am in 100% commissioned sales and will only have about a 9 days (spanning a weekend) to take off work and I am wondering if I will even be able to function after that?

Input and feedback is appreciated!

I requested 3 weeks off from work but ended up going back to work after 1 1/2 weeks. I think I could have gone back after a week though. Good luck on your surgery!!!

I took 2 weeks off. Today is my first day working. I could have done it a week ago but then again I just sit at work.

Seems most people are back to work in 2 weeks. My job requires me to lift 50 lbs so I was off work for 2 months. Best Wishes. Tina

Since I sit at a desk all day, my doctor said I probably could start working some in about 3 -4 days. I'm just not allowed to drive. With a sales job,do you have to lug equipment/products around? My doctor says no lifting of more than 10 pounds. Maybe you can work part-time to begin with then build up to full-time.

I have decided to take off 3 weeks of work since I will then be having hand surgery and be out for another 2 weeks. Work prefers I just stay out for 5 weeks so that I heal properly from my surgeries...especially since I have enough sick leave time to cover the 5 weeks.

i am an accountant and I took off a week and 2 days. I was cleared to take 6 weeks off, but I didn't need it. I felt great at the time. I do have to say that it can be a challenge trying to get in the liquids when I am so busy at work. I would suggest 2 weeks if you can pull it off.

I wish I would of waited another week or so to go back.

Best of luck to you.

I had surgery on a Wednesday and was back to work on Monday. I do have a desk job with a assistant. My assistant was a big help and I probably could not have went back so soon if it wasn't for her.. by weeks end tho, I was fine..

Good Luck

My surgery was 2/7/13 and I'm taking 4-6 weeks off so I can get into the swing of my new eating habits before heading back into the office. I'm on short term disability until I get back.

I traveled to sc from NJ for my surg. I had it on weds august 8th and went home one week later on a wednesday, That following monday I went back to my one patient. (i do home health care) And i took another week off from my other patient just because I knew she'd be running me ragged. I was Fine with my one patient ( a child.) But i couldn't lift for a month. If your job isn't too physical you should be okay after a week.

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
