Please read...travel buddies...vacations...places to travel with sleeves!

Recommended Posts

I dont know about any of my fellow sleevers but even before I got my sleeve I had made plans to travel this year to places Ive always wanted to visit here in the US. One of my first trips planned is a trip up north to the Redwood National forest. I want to see all the natural beauty out here in California while I can and with my sleeve and the weight that I will be loosing its the perfect mix for me.

However I realize that I am single and most of my friends all live back east and not all can afford to travel with me this year or even beyond. Thats why I am starting this forum.....I think that it would be a cool idea for fellow sleevers to want to meet other sleevers and also have fun to link up on here... Its always fun to meet new friends and to maybe find a travel partner. Granted I think they should have like sleeve conventions or cruises so that a bunch of us can vacation together but until I find that I thought what the heck....If you plan to travel to a city where there are other sleevers then you can meet up and do something instead of feeling alone on your vacation.

I live in Newport Beach, California and if anyone visits I would be happy to show them around and have some fun with a fellow sleever or two!

Lets see how many people like this idea..maybe someone can help me refine this...Id love the advice/help!

Brooke

I think this is a really good idea! I have also thought that people who have gotten sleeved could all get together and go on a cruise or something!

Id like to generate enough buzz about this topic...I just think that there have been so many people that I have met on here who have and are so supportive and helpful. It would be incredible if we could get enough people interested that would like to plan for a large get together or mini vacation celebration and see how it goes..maybe make a yearly event. Im newly sleeved but this just sounds like fun to me! What do you think?

I love the idea of having an opportunity to get together with fellow Sleevers! Nobody knows you better than someone who has gone through the same thing!

I saw this thread the first day it posted.

Had a number of thoughts on this.

I have thought for a while now how nice it would be to have someone that:

Understands what I have gone through and appreciates that

That I can go out to dinner with and not be looked at like "why are you eating so little"

Maybe go out to eat and share a plate.

Im a single dad. Two awesome daughters that have supported me 100% on this. They do get a little chuckle when we go out to eat.

Waitress asks:

What can I get you to drink?

Nothing for me thank you.

What you don't want something to drink, not even Water.

Nope, thank you. Im good.

Funny look and a smile.

My Gals just love that:-)

Well, just my thoughts.

This surgery has been the most wonderful thing I could have done for myself.

Day of first Dr visit back in Aug: 324lbs

Surgery Nov 7: 294lbs

On the scale this morning: 226lbs

I also love the idea. I have made several attempts to get a group of my fellow Chicagoan sleevers together, and I just can't seem to get any interest. But hey if every anyone is in my neck of the woods, I'd be more than happy to help out.

It would be so good to have fellow Sleevers to go out for dinner with and who understand you. I'm a single Mom who is having my surgery on April 8th. I'm really looking forward to getting through this stage and onto my new life.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
