What's your difficult food item to digest and what's still your weakness at 1 year surgiversary?

Recommended Posts

I will be one year on January 7th. I have figured out that my stomach finds it the hardest to digest pork and chicken.....even dark meat. I threw up after 3 well chewed bites of pork ribs on New Years...boohoo. Yet, I can digest fish and beef perfectly. K would think it would be the opposite.

I started drinking diet coke again and eating candy, but never in the amount I used to. I read the threads and feel bad for people who beat themselves up or deny themselves because everything will be okay. My goal is to give up dc again because I do believe it triggers bad food choices and becomes my drink instead of Water.

So........what is your difficult food item to digest and what remains your weakness at 1 year surgerversary?

I'm more than two years out. I still do not like to eat any flour tortillas, ever. They gum up and make me feel ill.

I'm cautious about rice and Pasta and can easily overdo it on bread if I'm not being careful. It's not that I overeat bread - it's that it swells and it's easy for me to overdo it on even a very small portion.

I still cannot drink cow's milk except in tiny portions and I fear ice cream is a forever gone food, due to lactose intolerance.

I think it's important to find the balance and break the cycle of trigger foods. So if there's a food you can't resist, despite working on incorporating it in moderation and controlling your desire to eat it, that's a time to consider an all or nothing approach. It's important that we don't let food rule our lives and it's also important to recognize that feeling deprived leads to binge or grazing behavior.

The only food I could let myself get out of control with would be soda. I do not keep much in the house and I try to choose other beverages most of the time. I allow it in moderation. If I kept it in the house by the case, I'd drink it non-stop and have a problem. I acknowledge that and accept it. It's a trigger food for me.

I also love popcorn but I have been able to incorporate it into my diet without letting it get the best of me. I enjoy it a few times a month (usually with a small, glass bottle of Coke to allow myself a treat that's perfectly portioned) without feeling the need to eat it more and without it causing me an issue on the scale.

It's all balance and knowing your limits. The challenges and journey do not end simply because we reach or near goal.

Congrats on one year,

~Cheri

I find it difficult still to digest meat in general... chicken, turkey and beef... so I pretty much stick to seafood...

I used to have a slice of cake or a cupcake EVERYDAY, most days 3 or 4 slices.... I HAVE NOT HAVE ONE SINCE PRE-OP.... at this point I think Im scared.... Sort of like an addict... Im thinking if I try it I will be hooked again\

I also used to drink a half gallon of OJ a day... I was very particular about brands, etc... Now they ALL taste bad to me... I tried to take a sip every once in a while when I dont want to taste my meds going down and hated it.. was like the worst kind of grapefruit juice...very sour and left aftertaste...

I just stick to Water or the occasional apple cider

Wow, that sounds like me! I always had cake, and I know it's like crack to me. I am also afraid to ever try it again...not sure how I would respond to that.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
