That is what is so wonderful about these forums. Take a look at the people posting here. We have all been where you are, especially me! I will hit my 1 year surgiversary on the 18th of this month and I will be the FIRST to tell you that it has not been easy. The Notre Dame football game food you mentioned? I went through that last year with the Super Bowl. I was only a few weeks post-op and I was surrounded by all that delicious, bad for you, tailgating food and it was rough. I spent 26 years eating whatever I wanted and now all of a sudden I couldn't. It wasn't that I didn't want to, I physically couldn't, and it was hard. I had bouts with nausea, I had pain, I had cravings. There were days where I regretted it, there were days I questioned if it was right for me. Everyone goes through that, it's natural. You HAVE to stick with it because I promise you it is so worth it.

I'm just under a year post op and I have lost 180 pounds. I started at a size 30 and I'm now a 14. I was a size 3X shirt, I'm now wearing medium. Every craving, every pain, every bad day, PALES in comparison to joy you will feel when that weight starts falling off. Stay motivated, you can do this!

At your stage I was still on full liquids. I don't know what your surgeon's directions were, but the only things I could have were yogurt, milk, Protein shakes plus the Clear Liquids.

Yeah, it's tough, especially if you're in a stall. I'm a year out and cannot seem to lose the last 17 pounds. Frustrating as hell!

Here's the deal: Eat all of your Protein. You need between 70-90 grams. Get the Water in. That will make or break you. Keep the carbs down. Some people say below 40 grams, but I do fine below 50. Log everything you put into your mouth on My Fitness Pal or Fitday. They are free and even have phone apps.

You can do it! You have the tool. It's knowing how to use it.

As for all the rules about Protein Shakes and protein first, well ... as someone told me: "You do what ya gotta do." It's not forever and the joy of eating and being satisfied with a few ounces of food will come. Today I'm having shrimp scampi, tilapia, a mini Bell cheese and a few multi-grain crackers from Trader Joe's. Maybe some chicken and veggies for dinner. I can even have a smidgen of dark chocolate for dessert with some coffee.

It does get better. You are not consigned to deprivation. You just have to be smart about it and it does take some retraining in how you deal with food. Days and get-togethers should revolve less around food and more with friendships and activities.

There's a great world out there for you. Just go get it!

Really! It took me a almost a year to get that far. LOL, No complaints though! I'm happy with 100 pounds for the year. That's still pretty amazing. Usually weight only comes off that fast if you have 200-300 pounds to lose.

That's including my preop loss so all together about 5 mths but I went to the gym and even exercised at home every single day. And I stopped eating carbs all together I've been slacking lately but I'm getting or back together.

+1 That it does get easier and better. Your first trip to the store to get new clothes is a very liberating experience. Once you start to feel the benefits of the suffering you may change your mind.

Don't judge a life long decision by one week. Bowl parties that center around good isn't a good place for a 7 day post op person to be. Know where you are in your process and surround yourself accordingly.

WHY would stuffing yourself with crap food be better? You'll feel gluttonous and crappy for having done it.

I must say, it's really wierd to NOT care that much about food! I've never experienced that before. I am now 12 days out and not eating much at all. The Protein Shakes to me are just gross and I can't make myself do more than one a day. I had regrets too just a few days ago when I was sick to my stomach all day but it does get better. I told myself preop that I was going to try very hard NOT to have regrets because that emotion truly is a waste of time now. I'm just focusing on doing what I'm supposed to do so this all turns out ok.

... Im so scared that now that I can eat food its goin to come all back !!Do any of yall have this same fear!!!!

This thread, in particular, has placed the fear of God in me: Rapidly Gaining Weight 2 Years Post Op Sleeve Surgery. Members write about regaining 20, 30, and even 42 pounds back after surgery.

Here's my personal take on this. I've got three to six months to redefine my relationship to food or: 1) I'll never reach goal, and; 2) I'll start regaining the weight I had lost. I've got up to half-a-year to make moderation (as opposed to abstinence) a new habit or, basically, I'm screwed.

I consider myself blessed in that I was never a "grazer," i.e., someone who eats frequently and between meals out of boredom or habit. My problem with food was that I ate too quickly, never heard of Portion Control, and raided the cupboard at night for carbs (terrible night hunger). From everything I've read, this surgery does a nice job of addressing this particular kind of problem eater, especially in regard to the hunger pains as they completely dissipated four days after surgery.

This afternoon we went to Chili's for lunch. My wife ordered her usual Swiss and mushroom burger and I ordered a bowl of chicken mushroom Soup. It took me about 20 minutes to consume exactly 10 spoonfuls. My wife ate the rest and commented how, before the surgery, I needed all of about three minutes to knock off the entire bowl.

It felt good, in an amazing sort of way, to feel so satisfied after consuming what was probably no more than 1/2 cup of Soup. Sorry to repeat myself but I must write this again: This surgery is emancipating.

Mason, I think you on the right track in your thinking but I dont think you have only 6 months to figure it all out. I hit a little ambivilence at 7-8 months but then got back into the swing. I am 13 months now, 138# lost and still rocking that sleeve better then ever!

I totally regret it. I lost 10 pounds in the 1st week' date=' nothing since then. I miss food, I miss eating. I am at a notre dame football party & I want to have a good time, but I can't without food. I have some sort of roadblock to change..people say "oh I don't crave food" I still do. "oh I don't care about eating." I still do. I wish I never would have done this. Sleeved 12/20 and wish I was back where I started.[/quote']

That's the problem you were at the wrong party, roll tide baby! Lol but seriously just hang in there summer is coming up and you will be able to show off your new body and enjoy a Lil BBQ

You might miss food, but it was the bad unhealthy food that got us here. Why bother do surgery if your not mentally ready? Not trying to sound harsh but dam the surgery is only a tool and the rest comes through behavior modification. Leaving bad eating habits. You might want to get further counseling because I think you are having a hard time divorcing unhealthy fat foods. Is not easy but please please don't give up so easily. Best of luck.

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
