Seriously struggling with getting my protein

Recommended Posts

I stopped trying, everyone once in a while I'll have a rough day anf add a shake but now get my Protein in without shakes. It's not as difficult as it sounds. My doctor also told me that it is preferable. I snack on beef jerkey and eat only high protein foods and I am at or above 60 everyday!

I personally have to drink two Premier Protein shakes a day and then that leaves me no room for any food, because I have to drink my Water the rest of the day. I have bought Unjury unflavored and chicken Soup Protein, and unflavored soy protein from Kroger, but the texture of it in yogurt or Jello just makes it inedable. I cannot stomach Bariatric Advantage. I was sleeved on the dec 27th also and my dr said to do whatever I had to do to get my protein

Thank you so much everyone for all the suggestions, I am going to try Unjury and the Protein Jello. I also love beef Jerky so I bought some 0 fat, very low sodium jerky at the store so that I can snack on that also. I am also going to try this greek yogurt everyone is talking about. I never tried it before and I keep hearing everyone talking about it.

Ugh, I was sleeved 12/27 and simply cannot stomach the Protein powders. Even the thought, makes me kind of, you know  Thanks, TheGamer, I will try the hot chocolate with chocolate protein. Hot might be better than the shakes  I can eat yogurt just fine, but that's only five grams of protein, I'd have to eat ten of them. It seems there is no winning at this point of the game.

Try the light and fit Greek yogurt 2 times the Protein they are 12 grams of protein! what week are you? Ground turkey is great and soft also canned chicken or tuna and string cheese. If you had 1 Greek yogurt, 2 string cheeses and a can of chicken or tuna you would be at 62 grams of protein for the day!

Thank you for mentioning the temperature piece of Protein. I was wondering if I could make a hot chocolate with my Protein shake' date=' but it doesn't sound like it after your post.[/quote']

Our Nut said to make double milk protein by using powder milk and use 2x amount of powder milk to Water and that us 16 grams of protein for 1 cup of milk then use that in hot chocolate using sugar free hot cocoa mix or in regular cream Soups. I tried it in Soup it wasn't too bad in pudding it was thick so I added more milk. Hot chocolate was good real creamy!

One thing im trying to do is i take two packs of the carnation no sugar added good start (i think thats it) - it has 5g Protein each pack - and mix with 16oz of Almond milk plus from Wal-Mart - each 8oz also has 5g protein added. For some reason im having no issues taking normal sized drinks and im just a week post op. i also add one tbsp splenda - tastes like im drinking a nestle Quick :)

OH my goodness....it's like we share the same story. I was also sleeved on the 27th, and I had the same hernia repaired. Things definitely don't taste the same! I tried Isopure as well, but it was pretty nasty, and was way too expensive. Lately, I've been using Optimum Nutrition 100% whey, which I found at GNC for a pretty good price. It's a powder, but it's not so bad. I've had the chocolate and the vanilla. The only problem I'm having is getting them down! How in the world can people drink them fast enough? I just keep putting it back in the fridge when I'm at home, because I can't stand to let milk stand out for a long time. I've also tried using only 6 ounces of milk in my shake. I just bought some PB2 powder to mix in my shakes, and I'll try that tomorrow...hopefully, it'll be good, and help counter the sweetness.

It's so good to hear from someone who's having the same problems I am! Hopefully, we'll get through this :P

I know, sometimes it feels like you are all alone in this but then I realize there are definitely others going through the same thing. I am not the perfect patient and I am a very picky eater so this is extra challenging but I am in it for the long haul. I may not do this the same as someone else but we are not supposed to it is each our own individual journey but it sure is nice to know you have support and someone is experiencing some of the same things.

I am with you!! I had my surgery on 12/10 (today is my one month) and I hated all the protein... I can't do Protein Powder mixes or anything too sweet... The only thing that works for me is Premier Protein from Costco!!! I can only handle the chocolate right now and it is still tough to get down but doable! Hope it gets better!!

Same here on the chocolate, that seems to be the only flavor I can stomach at the moment.

I add liquid egg whites in my Protein shakes.... there is no taste and i get added protein....3 TBL spoons has 5 grams protein....so if my Protein Shake has 26 grams and I add 20 grams of protein from egg whites...right off the bat my first shake of the day gives me 46 grams of protein!

Try the CHIKE powdered Protein mixes, they are better than the Bariatric Advantage. I did get a vegetable broth from Bariatric Advantage that I haven't tried yet, but I am hopeful. I have also tried the lean Protein Powder from GNC but thin it tastes the worst of all.

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
