Preop smokers? Help please!

Recommended Posts

I quit smoking 2 1/2 years ago.....I was a pack a day smoker and quit cold turkey. If I can do it...you can do it. Think about your health. Why have this surgery and continue to kill yourself? Aren't you doin this surgery to get healthy?

I was denied too and I so wanted to smoke...but I had come too far and I resisted!;) I still get cravings every now and then hut they pass quickly. Good thing I see something else shiny and I forget lol

I get cravings too..they get less and less with time. Sometimes I resent that I have to still stay away from situations that would temp me to smoke..like some friends and parties. Good thing there is no drinking allowed anyway!

I quit January 18, 2010 after smoking for 16 years. I was just sleeved on 12/18/12. I will say that quitting smoking is one if the hardest things I have ever done. I quit cold turkey and it was the best decision that I ever made to better my health besides having this surgery. To not wake up in the morning and go hack up a lung while smoking my morning cigarette is nice. Also to be able to enjoy the fresh air.

My surgeon says that smoking increases the chances of getting an ulcer which can be a very bad complication on a VSG patient. He will not operate on a smoker and sincerely tries to help the patient to never pick it up again.

I quit in September when my mother-in-law was diagnosed with lung cancer. I had been smoking since I was 16. I used the nicotine lozenges. They sell them at Walmart near the pharmacy. They really helped with the cravings, and they were tolerable tasting. I didn't want something I liked the taste of, wanted something I was ready to get rid of. I weaned myself off of the lozenges over the course of a month.

If you quit' date=' why would you ever start up again?[/quote']

It is a stress thing. Not saying I ever would start again but nerves might get even worse without the possibility to start again at all. I'm reading this to myself and it doesn't even makes sense....guess I'm just trying to make sure that smoking might be there when i want to shovel a cupcake down my throat. Lol

Hi all I'm new here and going through the process I'm fixing to start all my nutrition visits then hopefully surgery in April. I too smoke and was told at the surgeon consult I had to have quit 3 months prior so I'm taking chantix and my official quit date is next Wednesday. I'm so ready for a lifestyle change. I seriously hope I can quit this is the hardest thing by far I've ever done. I've tried Romany other times. This part of the surgery is what stresses me more so I hope the chantix works and I can keep my will power up. Saying prayers for everyone dealing with this issue.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
