11 days post op and I've lost only 4 lbs...

Recommended Posts

I said I wouldn't weigh myself until the doctor's office and then yesterday, I was following a thread that said you are supposed to lose 20 lbs the first two weeks post op. Unlike some people, my doctor and Bariatric Center allowed me "full" liquids the first week (meaning milk-based products) and cottage cheese (which can be chewed). So, I was never on Clear Liquids post-surgery. My walking has consisted of using a tread mill a few times (at my neighbor's house) and real-world walking (shopping trips, etc). I haven't pushed myself harder because I DO FEEL IT when I am done on the tread mill or shopping. Overdid it grocery shopping. Didn't lift anything heavier than 10 1bs, but the stretching, bending, etc...It added up after an hour.

I should add....for those who are weighing themselves all the time, is anyone "in my boat?"

I have lost about 22 from my two weeks pre-op thru today. How much Protein are you getting in each day? My doc said in order to lose the weight you have to take in at least 60 grams of protein. Hope this helps. My surgery was Dec 17th.

I lost 19 my first week but no cottage cheese until week 5. I haven't lost anything in a week! So since 12/12/12 I have only lost 19...I actually gained 2 pounds!

If there's one lesson to be learned that will save you a lot of stress- NO ONE IS TYPICAL! Everyone is different and some people will lose faster than others. Please don't compare yourself or your journey with anyone else's. I am almost 2 weeks post-op and I am down about 13 lbs from my surgery date. My first post-op appt is Monday the 31st and I can pretty much assume I won't be down 20 pounds. I had the same post-op diet as you to the letter. Good luck and please hang in there- you're doing great!!!!

Thanks for the feedback. Sometimes I wonder if I didn't lose too much, because I lost 7 lbs three days prior to surgery on the liquid diet. I was in shock when I saw the scale on the day of surgery. That's a lot of weight in three days, but I did feel like I was starving...so no surprise. I do know that everyone's journey is different, but part of me wonders if my hypothyroidism is going to make it harder to take advantage of the sleeve. I do believe that my metabolism is a problem and it won't behave in a predictable way because of the thyroid. Usually, if you exercise more, your metabolism speeds up, but that hasn't been the case for me (in the past). Re: getting more Protein - I will admit that last week I was not meeting protein requirements. Yesterday I had 70 g; Wednesday I had 53; Tuesday 74.5; Monday 79....When I couldn't tolerate "shakes," I drank at least one bottle of Isopure (40 g) to make up for the lack of great protein consumption at meals.

My surgery was Dec 20th and I'm down 25lbs. Lots of clear liquid with some puree. Hang in there

Maybe it's the clear liquids....My physician did not emphasize those over pureed Soups. Instead, the doctor/NUT were more interested in our Protein intake and staying hydrated. Obviously broth/jello is on the list of things I can eat, but there are lot of other suggestions. I am hoping that when I can exercise full-on, more pounds will come off.

I was on a clear, liquid diet for three days pre-surgery and I felt like I was starving to death, so I am not sure how I would have handled the same diet for an entire week post-surgery.

God bless you and your 25 lbs off! I'm sure you feel great.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
