Hello everyone. I hope you all had an amazing Thanksgiving holiday. I have a question for you all and I would love your feedback. I have been sleeved for seven months and I miss salads so much. I was wondering at what time you began eating them them again. I have had a very difficult time with any raw veggies. Raw fruits I am alright with but I've noticed that with any raw veggies, I am not a happy camper. I have only eaten a little lettus (different kinds) with things like a crab cake (that came with sandwich but I took apart) and after a small bite or two, I feel horrible. It's not as bad as raw onions. I CAN NOT EAT RAW ONIONS to save my life. I have no idea why, but I have tried many times and even tried small amounts with the same results. To be honest, I don't have all that better luck with cooked onions. However, they do seem to get down a little better than raw.

I am scared to attempt any type of salad since I know how lettuce and onions affect me, but to be honest, i have wonted one since my third month out. So, please help. How long was it before you could eat a salad or any raw veggies to be exact. I would appreciate any feedback. Thanks so much for your input. I have noticed that I can do a small amount of a taco salad as it wilts the lettuce, but I want some crisp iceberg or other greens preferably with some crab meat, chicken breast, or steak.

So, one last time (in case y ou didn't know know what I was asking...lol) How long did you have to wait until you could eat a salad? Thanks for any info you can give me. :)

just somethings to look at and put a smile on your face. Enjoy. Wish i could I enjoy a salad. ;)

You are very lucky. I tried to have some lettuce at three months out and trust me, it was one thing i wish i never attempted to eat. :)

I was cleared for salads after 2 weeks by my NUT. Have to be careful what I put in them, no carrots which is a bummer, but I have no problem with greens, cucumbers, tomatoes etc...

Raw veggies were really hard for me until 7-9 months out. Even then I stayed away from them because there wasn't enough Protein. In maintenance, I started eating them again. Give yourself a few more months, you will be able to tolerate pretty much anything without pain or difficulty.

What do raw veggies do to you?

I was able to start having a small(maybe 1 cup) of salad after 6 weeks. It's a very little amount with iceberg lettuce, shredded carrot, cucumber, red pepper and Tomato. Oh and some Salad Dressing for some slip to the veggies

What do raw veggies do to you?

They give me horrible pains in my tummy. They also give me indigestion. And as my husband just pointed out, they make me very gassy.

I was having small salads with leftover meat in them by the end of the first month - this really seems to be one of those YMMV things. I usually use chopped spinach instead of lettuce, mostly for its somewhat better nutrition, but lettuce seems to work as well for me. Small amounts (what else?) of Tomato, avo, shredded carrot, pepper, scallions, snow peas, etc. with a bit of shredded cheese made a good blend for me.

Hmmm, I have had no problems with salads, I have been eating them since about eight weeks out. I am sorry they are giving you so much trouble. I literally laughed out loud when you said your husband pointed out you are gassy, so kind of him.

I enjoy salads, and I guess I'm lucky because I haven't found anything my sleeve doesn't like, except that second piece of pecan pie on Thanksgiving day.

I'm at one month post-op and I would KILL for a salad! Salads have always been my food of choice and I'm lost without my veggies! Hopefully at my one month follow-up tomorrow my doctor gives me the green light.

I can't have them for six months so I don't know how they will sit, but I don't seem to have issues with anything yet except super high sugar, which is fine with me. But I am also a salad girl. I have eaten cesear salad all over the world (France is best) and I so miss it!!!!! Everyone knows it's a favorite of mine so at a recent dinner a friend stole my recipe and made it as a surprise, thinking that since I'm on a diet it would be great....argh I dreamed about that dang salad for a week! LOL

You should do fine with salad, I was ok to have raw veggies 6 weeks out. But on another note....would you mind sharing your cesear Salad Dressing recipe? :D

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
