Do I Really Need To Have Someone Come With Me?

Recommended Posts

Long story short... I'm looking at going to Dr Joya in PV for the sleeve... right now I can't do it until next August if I want to bring someone with me and have a longer recovery time (4 weeks)

I COULD do it sooner, with a shorter recovery time (2-2.5 weeks or so.. but could be extended if really needed) However I wouldn't be able to have someone come with me.

What are you opinions? Especially if you had yours in PV.... could you have done it without someone there and still have been comfortable?

I wouldn't do it alone, especially outside the country.

I am going to Tijuana alone next month. I have heard that everyone feels very safe and unless u r at the hotel u r never really alone.

I would love my hubby to go but someone has to stay with the kiddos and bring home the bacon!

Good luck :)

I, too, am going alone because of all of the reassurance I feel from the stories of those who have gone alone before me (about not actually being alone, etc). The only thing that might pose the tiniest bit of difficulty for me is finding a cab driver who will carry my bag up to my apartment after bringing me home from the airport, but I don't think it'll be that much of a problem.

Well I think IM ok with going on my own... I'm not sure I was when I was looking at the Tijuana option, something about crossing the boarder by myself just freaked me out a bit. Flying directly into PV seems like no big deal to me... however it is more of an issue for friends and family. Any suggestions on how to handle this?

I can fly out March 3rd and be home on March 9th... with surgery being on the 4th... I dont see the problem? lol

Did anyone else run into the family problem with traveling alone?

I'm curious about the recovery times you mention. Why the 4 weeks and the 2 weeks?

I don't have options on when I can take time off since I'm a teacher... summer holidays = 4 weeks off

March 3-9 (using 5 sick days, and march break is right after) then back to work... I CAN go on short term sick leave if absolutely necessary but I don't want to do that since I have to pay for this surgery

OOoooohhh.. I get it now. I thought you meant something they will do to your body will cause the recovery to be longer. I hadn't heard of that. I get it, I get it...

Decisions.... decisions.... I know what I want to do but is it worth the flack I'll get between now and then and coming home safetly? I have the perfect flight/options that work right now... I'm waiting for my credit card to be upgraded to get a discount on the flight (could take up to a week, last time it took 2 days) IF the flight is still there once my card is upgraded then I guess it's meant to be?

If it's not... I think I might cry lol

go to mexicalli like i did, no drug related problems that way., but it is a 2 hour drive from San Diego, but a beautiful one. the hospital picks you up at the airport in a nice vehicle and drives you across.

I had surgery in Piedras Negras and my husband went with me. I could have gone alone. The driver picks you up at the hotel and takes you to hospital then from the hospital to your hotel after surgery. The only time I would not have wanted to be alone would have been on my flight back home. I am glad my husband was there to carry my bag for me. If you go alone, pack lightly!

I went alone to TJ and felt completely safe. I flew into San Diego and was picked up and had no problems. I was back at work in 6 days.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
