Readytolose2012 got a reaction from mermaiddreams in Solo Surgery
Hello single people! This is the least active group that I follow, single people unite! We need the support this forum offers more than anyone. without a spouse/special friend where do we go for support?
I am scheduled for surgery 8/31, not only am I going through surgery alone but I am traveling to MX alone. Plus, I have not told very many people, just a couple of friends and no family members yet. I will tell them just not yet, I am not sure I am up to explaining to everyone, right?
Everyone of us have our own excuse for getting fat in the first place, my excuse is without no one there to watch me eat I simply eat whatever I want, whenever I want. I think if I had someone there I wouldn't eat so much.
What difficulties are you experiencing as a single sleever or about to be sleeved?

I didn't take a robe, wore two gowns.
I took my laptop and didn;t use it but I have an iphone.
Find out about your cell phone charges for Mexico.
I used chewable gasx with no problem.
My first night was in a hotel in TJ so I took their shampoo but the hospital gave us a packet with soap and shampoo and some nifty hair gel lol.
I didn't take any mouth spray, the hospital gave us lemon swabs to wet our mouths but I never opened mine.
I took vitamins but didn't take them, I start tomorrow.
I also took nausea meds and didn't use them. I told the Dr upfront that I have nausea everytime I took pain meds and so I was given extra anti nausea in my IV.
I packed very light and still took to much stuff. Take two sets of PJ's and sweat/yoga pants. Take something long sleeved, a hoodie, a sweater, something because it gets cool in the late afternoon and evening.

Readytolose2012 got a reaction from gema in New Here! My Surgery Date Is 08/31/12
Welcome ... my surgery is 8/31 also with Dr Garcia in TJ MX. I started my preop diet yesterday and did fairly well lol. Day two is starting out with a very rumbly tummy! But my preop is easy compared to some I have hear of so I will not complain. Do check out the August thread it has really grown.

Save yourself some time and email for prices. I sent emails to all the larger cities surrounding where I live. I ended up choosing Dr Garcia and I am scheduled for 8/31.

Readytolose2012 got a reaction from Kalimomof3 in Ok Let The Hair Loss Begin
From what I have read it happens to most everyone to one degree or another around the 4 month mark. I have started all my vitamins preop, plus biotin. Not sure if it will help but it sure can't hurt. I also went and got my hair cut and layered all over and it looks really thick now. I color my hair on a regular basis, I am thinking I will color it right before surgery and try to make it last as long as possible. Just my thoughts ...

I am in a similar situation. I will be having my surgery with Dr Ortiz. I went with him because of him being named as one of the top 15 bariatric surgeons by Newsweek and his facility is center of excellence, and if I am honest, because he was on Oprah. I don't know how much any of this means but that is why I picked him - I actually did not seriously look at other options.
I had a BMI of 35 but have started a modified pre-op diet and am already down to a 33.1 BMI. I have called and he will do the surgery as long as I am above 28. I am not scheduled until Sept 10. I have always had trouble with weight and have a strong family history of diabetes. I am pre-diabetic and, like you, if my number went up my insurance would have paid for surgery because of co-morbidity.
It is harder than you think to get you A1c up and with BCBS you would still have to do the 6 months supervised diet, etc, etc. I did not want to wait that long - plus it would take 3 months of really overeating and eating alot of carbs to get the A1c up - and no guarantee because right now your pancreas/cells/insulin are compensating. Why would you want to get to the point of so much damage? I thought about it but when it came down to it I would have the surgery tomorrow if I could get the time off work.
I am going by myself and I am not telling anyone that I am having this surgery done. I am taking a week off work and then returning part time mornings for the following 2 weeks. I have had surgery a few times before and have an idea of what I can handle. I also have a desk job.
To me, it is worth the money. I am considering how much money I will save in the long run if I am healthier. I am only 5'3" so just a little weight on me really shows, and I am a total apple!
I am not sure if I answered all of your questions. I do think wherever you decide to go, there will be many other people having the surgery so you will have plenty of support. I was stressed about going myself but I have already reached out to someone from this board who will be with the same doctor on the same day.

Readytolose2012 got a reaction from Silly Phylly in Post Op Questions Mexico Test Etc
I am scheduled! I am having the sleeve surgery with Dr Garcia 8/31 in Tijuana and I have so many questions.
What tests pre op and/or post op should be preformed?
How many incisions will there be and where will they be placed?
Do they leave one of the incisions open?
Will there be a drain left in and for how many days?
I plan to ask all those questions to my coordinator as well, I just want to make sure I know what is supposed to happen.
