I'm on day one of the liquid diet also. Surgery scheduled for the 12th. I get 7 shakes a day and any clear liquid like Water or broth. I've lost track of how many times I've looked at the clock today to see when I can have my next shake and can't believe how many tv commercials there are for food! LOL!

Hi everyone. My surgery is on the 14th as well, and this is the 5th day of my Protein shake/water diet. I broke down and had a salad with FF dressing on it. The second day I had a 1/4 c of cottage cheese. It's not even so much that I'm hungry as it is I miss chewing and crunching. I feel like a failure already, and the two things I've cheated with aren't really that bad, are they? Someone PLEASE make me feel better.

Hi Ladies,

You can do it! One hour at a time. How did you do today? I have just about finish day 5. So far, so good. I am quite hungry but was thrilled this morning when I zipped up jeans I haven't worn in months. Whoohoo.

The preop diet gets easier day by day - I am doing it for four weeks. I still get hungry (in the second week). But the is good practice for dealing with head hunger post op. I think the preop liquid diet is great preparation for the post op lifestyle.

Thanks @bakawaka. I keep hoping the hungry will go away, but on day 6, it is still here. I'm excited about how good I've done, but I really miss food.< /p>

Well, it happened to me too, today. I have been in business meetings with colleagues out of town. We inevitably go out to eat. I order chicken broth. The hunger returned. I've had to use a lot of mental discipline to get through the head hunger while watching my colleagues eat. Today was actually my most difficult day. I am trying to distract myself. I wish you and everyone on the pre-op liquid diet success.

One think I have found challenging is the constant sweetness of the Protein shakes. They are all sweet. I get tired of that. I have found that beef broth and chicken broth inbetween the shakes helps with that. Also, instant miso soup! It's full of Protein. It's a liquid. You can strain out the solid stuff. It's also savory and a wonderful alternative. The challenge with miso Soup and chicken/beef broth is the sodium. But it does help. On this business trip out of town, I do not have access to broth, though I did have miso Soup today at an Asian restaurant. Maybe these ideas will help.

Rachel (and all on a liquid diet pre-op), you girls rock. I love Rachel's 'tude... take it hour by hour, moment by moment and do what you can to just get through it. That was the hardest challenge prior to surgery.

You can do it guys and gals. And wow, I have to smile at how far you have come and with a great 'tude too! Kudos to you! That's a huge NSV! xx

I too am on day 2 of my pre-op diet. My surgery is on the 14th. So far, I'm following it 100%, but it is definitely hard. I haven't had any light headness, but I am having some strong hunger pains. Every doctor is different and their guidelines greatly differ as well. My doctor bases the length of the pre-op diet based on one's BMI. Being that the purpose of the pre-op diet is to shrink the liver, I see following this diet as essential. I tried the Isopure, but could not take it. The Protein Shakes are okay. Hopefully, these days will pass quickly!!

Well day 10 here and I am still hungry! I so wish the hungry would go away. I also haven't lost as much weight as I hoped so far. Hopefully, it'll catch up. We can do it! It's so hard to believe that the day is almost here. Wow!

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣
