Hi everyone, so I'm 5 wks post op and just about 30lbs down yay Me! But the problem is that I can only eat once a day and have as much liquids during the day. I want to start working out but Dr. said I would be too weak to do so. So I said Yah buddy really but I'm still gonna go for it.

hi there NEWBIE

congrats on making it through these first few weeks with your new sleeve

30 lbs lighter - you go girl/guy

first rule in the 2012-2013 " sleeve manual" ;) is to always follow the words of wisdom of your surgeon & NUT -

sleevers get dr. permission when he feels you can start back to exercising - its good to heed their advice.

many dr.s let patients start exercising at 6 weeks, some later, some earlier, - IMO its best to listen to the guy with the degree - even though you know better!! ;)

maybe start slow with a little walking - don't think anyone would object to that ;)

eating food once a day - this is per your NUT??? not sure why that would be the case, but if those are her rules, you should go with em - or are you physically unable to eat more than once a day?do you vomit?can't keep food down?

do you have success getting in 64 oz of liquid a day?

good luck

congrats on loosing 30 lbs

see you in the gym "later" ;)

I'm at the same mark as you and I eat 3 meals and have 2 Protein Shakes as my Snacks a day. when you can get some more real food in you will have the strength to exercise. My usual day is:

B- 1egg, 1/4 cup milk(scrambled) with a tsp cream cheese to soften it more

S- Protein Shake

L- 1/2 cup plain greek yogurt, 1tsp no sugar added strawberry jam(for flavor)

S- Protein shake

D- 1/2 cup chili or spaghetti sauce or 2 meatballs with gravy

Now that I'm getting this in with my Water I feel so much better

Good luck and congratulations on your 30lbs weight loss!!!!

went to see the Nut on Tues, she was no help. - drink Protein drinks I drink fresh watermelon or cantaloupe juice in place of Water. Just can't get water down.

leahandgracey

hi, sorry your NUT was useless to you, tuned you out :(

sometimes you gotta assert yourself - stand up on the desk screaming and waving to her "help, i am new to this and i need you to help me"!!!

drinking cantelope and watermelon juice are liquids, great, but you need to drink water too. if you hate the taste how bout adding chrystal lite - many sleevers seem to like that

your NUT is only allowing you to eat once a day? not sure i get that

how about eating yogurt, cottage cheese, eggs - soft foods for now are hopefully ok - ask your NUT and maybe she'll listen

you didn't mention the exercising - so i'm hoping you have temporarily put that on the back burner til you get your surgeons blessings.

tips????drink all day long - Protein Shakes, crystal light, water, take one day at a time....slowly

how many calories do you take in? you'll get more to eat gradually, more meals et al

others can jump aboard this train too - i can't be the only one with all the answers :lol:

good luck to you

Congrats on the progress so far! I am almost 3 weeks out and the Doctor cleared me to exercise from day 2 (walking) and just saw him yesterday and he said I can use my elliptical trainer and in another couple of weeks I can start weights. Everyone is different though.

Tbrendon, I just can't get enough in my system. Im under 400 cal today. eggs I'm tired of them. Don't know what else to eat

Try smaller portions like 1/4 cup for a week, then increase to 1/3 cup and see how that goes. Also for Breakfast I make cream of wheat but make it with milk instead of Water for added Protein. And instead of putting brown sugar on it like I used to I drizzle a little agave Syrup. Crustless quiches are good as well, meatballs in some kind of sauce or gravy. I have some recipes so personal message me if you want some ideas. I would try 3 meals a day and just start with 1/4 cup servings.

I was eating things like cottage cheese, yogurts, mash potatos, etc! When i needed to stop was when i got the hick ups.Just don't rush anything, take it slow and learn to know your limits.I was the worst when it came to eating,i never knew when i was full so i just kept on eating until i pretty much handicapped myself weighing in at 381lbs and my height is 5ft 8 inches with a BMI of 59.9.I've lost 168lbs since my surgery 8 months 2 weeks ago.I still only eat a piece of grilled chicken and maybe a bite or two of veggies.I can't eat bread or Pasta, since the surgery neither appeal to me and they just don't feel rite going down so i just gave them up! Good luck with it and don't get frustrated liked i see allot on here do.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
