Okay so today makes 2 weeks that I had surgery I have been following the stages of the diet but it seems when I eat I don't feel full. Well I feel satisfied but not stuffed which is the way I use to eat in the past which is how I got so big. I feel my surgery is not really working I mean I haven't had any complications at all so I am wondering if this is really working for me

What stage are you in with eating? What I have learned is that with the sleeve you will not get stuffed as in the past. If so you have over eaten and you will get slimmies. Satisfied is your new stuffed. Make sure your hydrated and getting in protien. That will help in you feeling full. This is a new journey and you will have new adjustments. Don't worry your full.

1. Head hunger (we are used to eating larger quantities and it is hard to for the mind to adjust). Most of us have gone through this.

2. Early on you maybe don't have all the sensations due to nerve damage - this is a good reason to measure your food in the first couple of months - if you can't trust your stomach or your eyes - that was certainly my situation.

3. You are way too early to declare failure... you are in the healing phase. Honestly, it isn't until you are far enough out to be on solids and really settled into that the full benefit of the sleeve is realized.

Hang in there - it gets easier!

Mslnzee2010, today is my official 2 week mark too. I understand what your going through. Things just feel differently for me now then they used to. I drink 2 Protein shakes a day during work and 54 oz of crystal total. By the time I get home from work, I am hungry. So I go to my Soups (without pasta) for dinner. I have been eating a really nice Soup I found from Panera (Chicken). I don't puree it. It is so well cooked that everything is mostly mush to begin with. What little chunks I do get I chew about 40 times to insure they will pass through my new pouch. This gives me a satisfied feeling for awhile. I then make sure I get all my liquids in and it is time for bed.

Let me warn you. I went a little crazy yesterday and decided to eat some cooked broccoli that was on the stove. I was 3 stems in when I finally realized what I was doing. Let me just say that I was uncomfortable for the rest of the night. It was a lesson well learned. Some habits just die hard. I'm used to walking by and grabbing a taste of whatever is cooking. It was not a fun experience and not one that I will be repeating. I was fully aware that my new pouch works!

Also, it's really hard to fill full on liquids. When you start eating solid Protein it's a whole new ball game. :-)

You will start feeling full as you progress onto solid foods. Measure, measure, measure & chew, chew, chew your food and don't over eat. Trust me, puking hurts!!!!!

Jonathan, my surgeon & NUT explained to me that my new tummy needed to rest & heal before giving it any food to digest. Even well chewed solids were bad news bcs the tummy sees it as needing to digest it. Unlike w solids, it just lets those pass thru. So your tummy wasn't ready to churn on the broccoli. But, ur doc may have told u something diff. The one consistent thing w WLS is how diff all the plans are. :-)

You are absoultley right! That is why I claim an episode of temporary insanity! My plan calls for solid foods @ week 3 and vegetables are way down the road. I have been feeling like my old self for awhile and I just wasn't thinking. It however did one thing and that was to prove to me that my stomach is indeed smaller. Back to the soft Soups for me! They feel so much better! :-)

Man, I'm on the opposite end as the OP. I wish I didn't feel constantly full. Since I'm only 6 days post-op I'm still in the stage of forcing myself to try to get my fluids in... and failing miserably (yesterday finally got up to 36 oz total -- still way low). I know it will slowly progress, but for now I can;t even imagine eating actual food. And like Jonathan I slipped up last night when I woke up and went to the fridge to get some water: poured it in a regular cup and instinctively took two semi-big gulps before realizing what I was doing -- OUCH!!! My stomach wailed angrily at me and I definitely made a promise to myself not to sleepwalk anymore

I think that we've all had that moment of forgetting and then the big uhoh! I did the same thing with water!! OUCH!!

As for not being able to drink much yet, it took me and many others on here a good 2 weeks to get the Fluid intake up. Just keep at it! Don't let yourself get dehydrated. This isn't the time to 'diet'. Breyers low carb popsicles saved me when i was recently sleeved.

Protein is the key. I really like Premier Protein. I get it at my local Sam's Club. It is the best tasting that I have found. It is also premixed so you don't end up with all that extra air from the shaker bottle.

Like the other poster said you shouldn't be feeling "full" just a satisfied feeling. If you are full you have eaten too much you have to listen to your body and learn to hear the triggers for, I've had enough. Burping, coughing, hiccups just some of the things people experience. For some of us we know just when to stop.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
