I got my date! November 29, so I'm a November Bandster! Thanks to everyone for posting their experiences, and my thoughts are with you all. After reading your posts I feel more excited than nervous.

I'm 5'4", 234 pounds. Going to Dr. Perez at US Bariatrics in Ft. Lauderdale - self-pay. (Tricare sucks)

What a crazy process! Endoscopy, colonoscopy, 2 sleep tests, that thing where they put a tube down your nose, blood test, EKGs, stress test, psych eval, I'll be so glad when this is over. I got fit for a CPAP last night - does anyone else have to use one? It was very uncomfortable - any suggestions would be appreciated.

Best wishes to everyone!

Hi, Dani,

I see we both agree -- TRICARE SUCKS! I'm being banded on November 20th -- self pay.

Hi Everyone,

Today was the first of many challenges with the band. I am only 8 days after surgery and found myself out to dinner with a friend and her daughter that don't know about my band.

We went to IKEA and the kids were so hungry we decided to eat there. I hadn't really had anthing all day and was feeling the nauseated hungry feeling. They didn't really have any Soup or any other option for me but I was starving. So I ordered the swedish meatballs thinking that I could probably chew chew and maybe be ok. :)

Now I don't know about everyone else but I'm not supposed to eat anything solid for 22 days or something. Well I ate about six meatballs and one small red potatoe with the gravy. I am relieved and scared because there were no ill effects from the meal. I was happy because there was pbng and therefore I didn't mess up what I just spent all my nest egg on, but very freaked out that it seems that I can eat all I want.

I am worried that the 19lbs I have lost so far are going to be gained back. I don't want to push and get a fill to soon, but I am scared of my own inability to say no to food even though I know it could have damaged by band. What the hell is wrong with me?:angry

I have read other posts re: the same thing but I was sure it wouldn't happen to me.

Thanks for listening.

Jess

Jess, I am only 4 days out from my banding, but I do remember talking to the doctor on release from the hospital, and she told me that there is no restriction of the band right now, that as the swelling goes down there will be nothing holding me back from eating, and I need to be careful about what I choose. I would suspect that the food you ate just passed through the stoma easily and there was no damage, but it does mean that you will need to get a fill as soon as you can. I think you should stay away from situations that require you to eat, and I would NEVER go all day without eating much. I am hungrier than I thought I would be so soon after surgery, so I am careful to eat every couple of hours so that I don't get the "crazy hungry" feeling. If I were you I would become a hermit for awhile, at least at mealtimes, and plan in advance the liquid meals you will be having and the schedule for them....and stick to it. Don't beat yourself up over this, you have been one way for a long time, and it isn't going to change overnight! Let yourself heal, talk to your doctor, and go easy on yourself, this is a huge commitment we have made and there will be times that we all fail. Good luck and congrats on realizing you don't want to keep doing this kind of thing!

Karen

Hi Jackye,

I am gald you are back safely! First thing in the morning have a little warm herbal tea, this should relax the restriction a bit. This morning I could not drink a full liquid...a Protein smoothie...it felt like a dry golf ball going down...uncomfortable, so I had tea first and it really helped! Take little tiny sips and go very slowly...it works for me!

Write to meon my e-mail and let me know details. :)

Cassandra,

Initially, I was very nervous because I was just notified this past Tuesday of my band date. I knew that because I'm self-pay I would get scheduled sooner, but somehow I thought I would have at least a month notice. Now, I'm just trying to mentally gear up for the surgery and get my "house" in order.

I'm not required to do a pre-op diet. My surgeon told me just not gain any more weight. So, on my own I started a low-carb diet this a.m. just to get a little bit of a headstart before surgery day, to avoid sugar withdrawal headaches, and hopefully, get quickly past the gas pains I've been reading so much about.:cry

I'll probably go to an all liquid diet one or two days before surgery, but no more than that. The reason being that my surgeon requires a 6-week liquid diet before I can begin mushies and does fills at two week intervals beginning two weeks after surgery. So, I don't want to self-impose the liquid stage for an additional week. I'll have plenty of time to "enjoy" liquids (NOT!). LOL

APinkSoprano,

So far, I've found two other people in this thread -- You and Cassandra -- who have the same band date as I do! Yeah, us! How much weight are you required to lose prior to surgery?

I have no clue where to upload this, so I'll put it here. This is pre-op vs the morning of my 6 month appointment! In office I weight 232, that's 88 lbs down since my highest weight, 75 lbs since my surgery weight! I can't believe this jacket fit... I am smaller now than the last time I was this size which the surgeon found really amusing. He's happy with where I am in my weight loss and estimates I'll be around 200 lbs by my 1 year anniversary! My lowest weight as an adult is 195, so that's pretty damn exciting to think I'll be near that at a year. Everything from there will be unknown territory!!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
