Am I Loosing Fast Enough? (Got The Sleeve At 154#)

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone! Why are you coming down so harshly on someone who only had a start weight of 154?? You do not know all of her/his stats and medical condition and it is not fair to jump to conclusions. Just because someone is not morbidly obese does not mean they are not entitled to better themselves and better their health. Lighten up and Celebrate the fact that someone is taking the steps to have a better life for themselves, regardless!!!

I think they are responding to some very real concernes...and I would be curious to know who her doctor was.

There are always going to be times you are confronted with being asked questions without knowing all the facts, and you have to decide how you will react.

I chose to react in saying your face looks extremely thin, and given some of your verbage in other topics, starting weight and , yes, even the online name chosen, please...make sure you need to lose more weight.

What was the complication that caused it?

Coronary artery disease....and ironically the surgery she was having was abdominoplasty and breast reduction. Apparently one doctor refused to do the surgery because she was considered high risk due to her health issues, but she found another doctor who would do it, and died as a result. Following this, the Governator himself passed the Donda West law stating something about requiring medical clearance for elective surgeries in California....at least, according to Wikipedia.

Yes, that is all I could find: West's autopsy report says she "died as a result of coronary artery disease and multiple postoperative factors.". Vague on particular post-op complications

I'm not sure what point you are trying to make. It may just be I am reading it differently or looking at it from another direction. When you go under anesthesia, regardless of if you are having a knee replacement, a boob job, a gall bladder removal, or a lap band, you risk death from a reaction to the anesthesia or pulmonary embolism or infection or any number of other possible complications.

I haven't been on here very long, do you see many people like this person here?

I just reread and saw I quoted the wrong post. I meant the person that the quote was responding to. Stupid phone! :)

No, it doesn't. Moderators are on this forum and ban people like him. It's best not to antagonize but to just report & let them deal with it.

We DO have difference of opinions and great discussions where we all learn from each other. But bashing as this individual did is not tolerated and nor should it be.

The poster with the rude remark was banned yesterday. I find the people on this site to be wonderful. I find the people show me another angle of thought, one that I may never have thought of on my own. I like it when people make me think. Also, the experience of those before us is invaluable. And those that are "walking parallel" to my experience is helpful, as well.

It looks as if he's online now. How is that possible?

Needs to be banned from this entire site and not just this forum/topic!

I am fully supportive of you! My BMi was also borderline since I am about 5''2' and was 171lbs pre-surgery. I am down to 153lbs after about 3 weeks post surgery and looking forward to be at 130lbs ideally. So what if it is cosmetic? After all' date=' it will have a positive effect on our health in general. BEST of luck to us, whether it be for cosmetic of medical reasons! Puerto Vallarta Mexico rocks! Self-paid also and very happy :)[/quote']

Good for you for not criticizing her. Regardless of her weight she did this for herself and no one should judge or roll eyes. Most people do it for medical reasons and some do it for cosmetic reasons. Either way we are all here to SUPPORT each other. As an obese women we get judged enough with the regular world. Let's try and stay positive here. Good luck to everyone!!!!!!!!

It's funny, if you read the banned member's other posts from other threads....seems like a real nice guy. It's almost as if his teenage kid came home that day, logged on here under his logon, then proceeded to get his daddy banned. Wouldn't that have made for a fun scene when daddy got home?

Question for anyone, how did you get your mind right before surgery? Like as far as eating better foods and just doing better in general? I'm having a really hard time with this. Any help is appreciated 🙏❤️

I had about 6 months between deciding to do surgery and getting scheduled. I came across the book The Pound of Cure by Dr. Matthew Weiner, a bariatric surgeon in Arizona, and started to implement some of the changes he recommended (and lost 13 lbs in the process without ever feeling deprived). The book is very simple, and the focus is on whole, plant based foods, but within reason. It's not an all or nothing approach, or going vegan or something, but focuses on improvement and aiming for getting it right 80-90% of the time. His suggestions are divided into 12 sections that you can tackle over time, perhaps one per month for a year if a person is just trying to improve nutrition and build good habits. They range from things like cutting out artificial sweetener or eating more beans to eating a pound of vegetables per day. I found it really effective pre-surgery and it's an eating style I will be working to get back to as I am further out from surgery and have more capacity. Small changes you can sustain will do the most for building good habits for life.

That sounds awesome. I'll have to check that out thanks!

I've hit a stall 9 months out. I'm not worried, though. My fitness levels continue to improve and I have nearly accomplished my pre-surgery goal of learning to scuba dive! One dive left to complete to get my PADI card 🐠
I was able to go for a 10K/6mile hike in the mountains two days ago just for the fun of it. In the before days, I might have attempted this, but it would have taken me 7 or 8 hours to complete and I would have been exhausted and in pain for the next two days. Taking my time with breaks for snacks and water, I was finished with my wee jaunt in only 4 hours 😎 and really got to enjoy photographing some insects, fungi, and turtles.
Just for fun last week, I ran two 5Ks in two days, something I would have never done in the past! Next goal is a 10K before the end of this month.

Hi everyone, I wrote back in May about having no strength. I still get totally exhausted just walking from room to room, it’s so bad I’m using a walker with wheels of all things. I had the gastric sleeve Jan. 24th. I’m doing exactly what the programs says, except protein shakes. I have different meats and protein bars daily, including vitamins daily. I do drink my fluids as well.  I go in for IV hydration 4 days a week and feel ok just til evening.  So far as of Jan 1st I’ve dropped 76 lbs. I just want to enjoy the weight lose. Any suggestions or has anyone else gone thru this??  Doctor says just increase calorie intake, still the same.

Losing my hair in clumps and still dealing with "stomach" issues from gallbladder removal surgery. On the positive side I'm doing better about meeting protein and water goals and taking my vitamins, so yay? 🤷‍♀️
