Hey Folks,,,A big Hello... I hope this post finds you all in the best of health & spirits...Come tomorrow & it will be 4 months since i had surgery..what can i say, the journey has just been amazing,,,the first signs of loosing flab, overly curious office gang , the increased attention from the male fraternity & the amazing compliments... the topping on the cake -- the person who looks back at me in the mirror. And for the very first time,i have some snaps to show off,,,

At my heaviest : 94.6kgs-Sep 2012

3 months post op (May 2013)

Not to say, that, i haven't had bad times...the 2 days post op were horrible & there have been times i have choked on food, but God graciously,my sleeve has behaved very well. Eating the way i eat now,has become a part of my being. People around me have come to realize that no amount of nagging will make me increase my portion size.

I fitted into a size 32 jeans ystdy for the very first time in my life,,down from a 36/38 . For the weight.. Now as a month 4 celebration -- I am getting a cycle today !!! Will cycle to the yoga center every morning & to the beach every evening for a walk.

Hopefully...i shuld be fitting into a size 30 jeans at my 6 month anniversary !!! I will work for it !!!

Hi everyone! I am not Indian but I spend a lot of time in Pune and Bengaluru on business and have good friends in both cities. I am newly sleeved and will be in Pune sometime next month. I am apprehensive about the soft food stage while there! I will of course check with my nutritionist while at home in Australia but Australians don't really know about the food in Pune. I am sure I will be able to have soupy daals but what else do you think will work? How about kesari baath? Too heavy? How about aloo? Roti? I would love ideas. I am non-veg but it is convenient to eat veg in Pune.

Hi misty..

eating out during the first few weeks after surgery is not really a good idea.. but if there is no other choice..

I would suggest trying the palak paneer.. you can try the kesari bath if it is made in a soft consistency.. in bangalore you could try sambar idly (basically idly soaked in sambar (a dal preparation)), khara pongal...

per my nutritionist (from texas).. rice/roti.. was not recommened until atleast 4 months post op.. and I was to avoid potatoes..

All the choices above do have good Protein content but are high in carbs.. and fat depending on where they are made..

you could also try eating fish.. without the skin.. be sure to chew well though.. you can also find shark meat(flake).. I'm not sure how common it is to find in Bangalore or Pune.. week 4 and beyond you can try the tandoori chicken, well cooked channa dal..

having said that.. you could always have boiled eggs.. I'm sure your hotel staff would be more than happy to help you out.. :) and almost all places serve the omelet.. you could try the sunny side up..

Perfect info. Thank you so much! I hope to delay the trip until I am in the solid phase or at least the soft food phase so Incan have Soups with veg in it, porridge, and tender meats in gravy. My friends can also cook some things for me if I have trouble at the hotel. My portions will be so small that I think I will be ok.

Reality Strikes! Holy crap, woman, you look gorgeous!!! Congratulations on your health, happiness, and success! :)

Mistysj, I went to Bangalore while I was in the soft food stages. I lived off of beans/lentils, cheese (natural, not processed), paneer, and milk.

I would not do kesari bath or khara bath, because the semolina may expand. Same goes for pongal (the rice will expand). As for potato and roti, you won't be getting in any Proteins, which is your primary goal, like Avanti said.

Avanti mentioned palak paneer which is an excellent option! Paneer anything is wonderful. Don't worry too much about the higher calorie or fat content. Focus on Protein, nutrition, and satiety. If you can make paneer at home from low fat milk, all the better. eggs are another great option.

I would not do sambar at all, until you are sure the spice and acidity is something your new tummy can handle. Idli is surprisingly not very good as a Protein source, but it's better than nothing if you have no choice. It expands a tad, but not as much as rice or bread. Avoid coconut chutney! The fibers sit very heavy in the stomach, and I was told there is a chance of them getting stuck in the suture line.

Peanut Butter with apples or crackers is an easy on the go option. Tofu is also available in lots of restaurants, at least in Bangalore.

Where in Bangalore will you be? If you inbox me about it, I'll let you know where and what I was eating when I went out. Good luck!

I am Indian living in North Carolina. Had the sleve on April 10th. Decided to go to Mexico because we have no family in India. My parents and my husband family are here. So far have lost 27 lbs. I didn't have to do a pre op since i had a low bmi. Doing great though.

Just thought I'd share! I'm almost 8 months post-op and around 90lbs down (I haven't weighed myself in nearly a month, so I don't know the exact number).

I'm attending a wedding this weekend and I finally learned how to wear my sari! It's not draped perfectly, but it's close (I think)...and most importantly, I feel good about myself!

Don't mind that I'm not wearing makeup or that my hair isn't done---I'll be glamorized for the wedding, definitely!

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

Some days I feel like an infiltrator... I'm participating in society as a "thin" person. They have no idea that I haven't always been one of them! 🤣

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!
