April 2006 Bandits October Challenge

Recommended Posts

Woops - weighed in today and it was no good.......Last week I lost 4 lbs and this week they were back! I think I might need another fill........have been doing too many "snacks" inbetween meals......good Snacks (?), but obviously too many calories overall..............boy is it easy to forget! The exercise tho is good!.........so, this week "nothing inbetween meals" or "in the evening" except no calorie beverages!............if that doesn't work, I'm on my way for another fill.................I am tight though, have to chew, chew, chew!

You're going to do great guysis. Good for you for realizing what's gotten off track and correcting it quickly. Way to go.

Ceparano, congrats on the 5 lbs and congrats even more on the inches lost last month!

I worked out with my trainer tonight for the first time in a couple of weeks (work's been nuts). I forgot what a difference working out with my trainer as opposed to by myself makes! I should go back to twice a week with her. If it weren't so darned expensive....

Anyway, 6 sessions down, 11 to go. We're off for Columbus Day on Monday, so I bet I get to 9 before I need a break for a day or two!

Take care all.

I am doing fine and trying to cope with it all, although it isn't always easy with my travelling. I hope you don't mind but have started a conversation thread also as exercise isn't a priority at the moment for me and wanted to share my updates with everyone, will keep checking in though

YOu are all doing so well

Hi, will check out your chat site in a few Amourette! Lets see, I have exercised, it has been a bit of different types of things lately!!! I worked for about 45 minutes with my g-niece, and I can once again hula hoop!!! Man alive my obliques were sore!!! We have walked when possible. Yesterday we attempted a walk, and got caught in a massive hail storm--took shelter in someones alcove between their house & garage! There was a HS homecoming parade, and we walked down to see it. There were kids caught in the storm. It was BAD!!! 7 people ended up injured, and like 17 accidents reported! We RUN home in 6 inches of water....not my new favorite exercise, nor one I want to continue as my "new" exercise!!! So last night we went to dinner with friends, and during dinner we decided to go bowling afterwards. We had to wait for a lane so we shot a couple of games of pool, and then bowled 2 games. I am hoping I burned more calories than I scored points!!! I am not good, but we had a blast. My DH only managed to bowl one game, and then he called it a night, it was a bit much for him, with his recent surgery. We have reserved a lane for next week. I think this will be a keeper form of activity. I have made Curves a regular 3-4 times a week. I was ok with my weight and inches lost there this month, my amount lost from the begining is staggering to me!! I think I am finally at the point of making some muscle!! I see it in the ease at which I heft a bale of hay etc. I measured myself the week before surgery, and to date with the Curves #'s I am down 41 inches!!! So far I am on track with the challenge, I like that it makes me think of ways to be active every day, knowing I have to report back to y'all!! Looks like in the next month or so, my increase in activity will include raking leaves, they are coming down fast and furious!!! The hail helped!!

Keep up the good work guys!!! This is such an inspiration, and help!!!

Kat

Hail? WOW. I think I've only seen hail once or twice in my life. I remember thinking it was the freakiest thing ever, mostly because it was summer yet there was falling ice. I'm glad you're safe and not too damaged from the storm.

I forgot to tell you all my wacky NSV from last night with the trainer. She made me do these crazy pushups. Anyway, between sets, I was able to sit back on my heels (imagine going froma kneeling position to sitting back so your read is touching your heels). This is a completely natural position for many people, but I hadn't been able to do it in years because my calves and thighs were too big for my rear and ankles to actually meet. YEA!

Goodness, Kat, you are lucky you didn't get hurt in the storm, hail is brutal. Was there no warning the storm was coming, those poor kids. What a way to ruin their parade. You know, I love bowling and haven't done it in years. Now you got me thinking about it. That sounds like a great night out of fun for the family. Our local alley is always advertising a midnight bowling thing with all kinds of special events that occur during it, maybe we will have to take the kids and do that next weekend, thanks for the idea!

Julie, I like your NSV, that is cool. I so admire you girl. I have been totally lacking in motivation to exercise this month and your working out with a personal trainer! I need to get off my lazy butt before it starts growing again instead of shrinking.

On a good note, I thought I had ate a lot this week and actually lost 2 pounds. I have noticed on the weeks I think I ate too much, I seem to lose more. I guess maybe I am going to have to break down and keep track of my calories on fitday to see exactly how much I should be eating to insure good weight loss. Apparently, there is truth to the idea that if you don't eat enough, it can hinder your weight loss instead of help it.

Doing better with my no eathing between/after dinner! My six month band anniv was yesterday (the 7th)! I didn't weigh - only do that on Friday's.............somewhere between 45 - 50 lbs and I'm so happy! I'm having a local band group meeting here at my house today - potluck of healthy band foods and supportive talk.............a great supportive group that I've been with since a month before my surgery. Cleaned out my closet and I've got a ton of clothes that I've outgrown (would have never given them away before - no worries now!) for a clothing exchange.

Well, today was NOT my best exercise day, but it counts anyway. I DRAGGED myself to the gym and all I could force myself to do was walk on the treadmill for 35 minutes. The end. Believe me, I never would have gone at all without the challenge. I guess there's that at least.

Maybe I'll be more up for it tomorrow.

Julie congrats on your NSV, your a little fire ball and a great inspiration. I had a personal trainer many years ago and it does make a difference.

Kat, I am glad you weren't hurt in that hail storm, are the kids alright?

41 inches?????? outstanding job on your weight loss to date!!

Betty isn't it grand to be able to clean out our closets? I have a couple of outfits that had become my uniform during my heaviest weight....now I can't stand to even look at them. This week........out they go!!!! I'm not even giving them away for fear of seeing them on someone else!!:faint:

I went apple picking yesterday and this morning I found I had loss 5 more pounds!!! I'm at my half way mark with 50.5 lbs loss.:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: I would never have believed that this could be possible for me. Seeing the dedication of our group is really helping to motivate me to keep moving.

Great job everyone!!!!!

Hey Roberta, congratulations on being halfway to goal! That is outstanding.

Well, I started doing laundry at 10:00 am this morning and am just now finally going to fold the last load. Yes, I had a lot to do and am sick of doing it now.

I had a pretty good week this week, I lost exactly 2 pounds. I have been averaging 1 so that is good. My mini goal is to get to 240 (a) before my 40th birthday in two weeks and (:girl_hug: once I go below 240 I will finally be able to say I have less than 100 pounds to lose. So, that is why that is my mini goal. Strange, I know, but it works for me right now.

I just got off the treadmill. I am off to fold that final load of laundry and go to bed. Hope everyone has a good Monday.

Roberta: Fantastic that you've reached the halfway mark! Way to go, girl!

I really had trouble dragging my ass out of the house today to get some exercise. But in the end, it was the October Challenge and all of you who inspired me, so thanks a bunch, and I do feel much the better for it.

I was super-exhausted from a weekend of houseguests and the celebration of Canadian Thanksgiving. I made a big Thanksgiving dinner for 12 with the usual trimmings (turkey, but no Pilgrims). But thanks to the band, I was basically unable to eat! It was one of those times when there was just too much restriction, probably because I had to taste everything as I cooked. Tasting calories don't count, right?

October Challenge

1) 10/2: 1-hr movement class, 35-min lap swim

2) 10/3: 1-hr yoga class, 35-min lap swim

3) 10/4: 1-hr movement class, 35-min lap swim

4) 10/5: 1-hr yoga class, 35-min lap swim

5) 10/6: 35-min lap swim

6) 10/9: 1-hr movement class, 35-min lap swim

Thanks Bluehill and Susan!!

Well today I'm not doing too well. I had to stay home and wait for Sears to come and check my heating system ( no heat when I turned it on), this was a must because Friday is supposed to be cold.

Well, I have been super tight since my fill on Thursday and found myself not being careful to take small bites and wait. I'm sure you know the rest.......I had my first episode of the slimes and finished off my new experience with a PB!!!!! How wonderful!!! Now I have to determine if I'm too tight, or have I for the last 5+ months not been eating like a Bandster. I have to honestly say I think it is the later. Needless to say I'm not feeling too well and am not inclined to exercise today. Oh well, tomorrow is another day. Everyone is doing so well. To be such a small group I think the support here is great.

I'm sorry you're not feeling well, Roberta. But as you say, tomorrow is another day, and you'll be back with the program.

Your first PB event! I was actually relieved when it first happened to me, because until then I wasn't sure that I even had any restriction. I can deal with PBs fine when I'm at home; but when I'm out, I'm VERY careful to avoid them.

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
