My Husband Thinks I'm Copping Out

Recommended Posts

If you haven't already, I would first invite him to an educational seminar with your surgeon. That's always a good start for those who do not completely understand the risks and benefits of surgery. On a side note, you may "like" exercising more if you can find a fun way fo doing it! It's not easy, but your body will thank you for it :) Best of health!

my husband was dead set against me getting the surgery. We tried dieting together walking together the whole 9 yards. So I started doing research talking about it telling him how my weight is effecting my quality of life etc... and I drug him to a seminar and year later not only is he supporting me but we are getting it together!

MOST people I know have seen me struggle... and know that I have tried EVERYTHING since I was 8 years old and started my first diet.

My answer to the "Easy way out" comment would be "only way out".

I just could not break the obesity/hunger cycle. I tried and tried, I used to be able to lose weight and regain, but in recent years, i couldn't even really successfully lose weight anymore!

Unless you have been obese - I don't mean 10-20 pounds overweight, but seriously obese, you just don't realize that the person finds themselves in a physical cycle that is so hard to break. Used to be they blamed it all on emotional issues, and while that is certainly a component, just plain all consuming hunger and rive to eat is one of the many struggles for people with metabolic syndrome.

Yes yes yes. I am living proof that yes indeed the seminar makes them a believer. After the seminar-my hubby finally understands what this is all about.

definitely definitely definitely take him to the seminar my husband was very against it as well and I got sleeved on October 8th and I'm just now feeling good but he so supportive he's being really awesome and he understands so much more because he went to that seminar the informational seminar. I will pray for you and all of your stuff going on and that you and your husband can see eye yo eye just stay strong as a husband and wife unit.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL

Still purging all of the larger clothing. This morning, a shirt that I ADORED wearing ended up on top. Hard to let it go, but it was also hard to let go of those habits that also no longer serve my highest good. Onward and upward!

Well, tomorrow I go in for an impromptu hiatal hernia repair after ending up in the ER over the weekend because I couldn't get food down and water was moving at a trickle... I've been having these symptoms on and off for a few weeks but Sunday was the worst by far and came with chest pain and trouble breathing. The ER PA thinks it is just esophagitis and that the surgeon and radiologist are wrong. But the bariatric surgeon swears it is a hernia, possibly a sliding one based on my symptoms. So he fit me into his schedule this week to repair it! I hope he's right and this sorts it out. He's going to do a scope afterwards to be sure there is nothing wrong with the esophagus. Here's hoping it all goes well!!
