Post Op September Sleevers, Roll Call

Recommended Posts

I'm 3 days post op.. everything seems to be great... except I'm having major headaches. Anyone else experiencing this problem

When this happened to me it was the "having no salt" in my diet anymore. After 4 or 5 days the headaches stopped. Hang in there, you should be alright soon. I know it sucks, lol.

NG- I believe G2 still has some carbs or sugars. Next time you're at the store compare the two. Powerade does not :). How's the weight loss coming?

I so want food. I also have no damn energy

Newgrandmother - I had asked about putting Neosporin on the incisions since they were so dry and pulling but was told not to put anything on them. For breakfast I have a 6oz Protein Shake, lunch I have a light & fit yogurt, dinner another Protein shake and Popsicles throughout the day. I know I'm not eating enough which is why I'm hungry. I'm on phase 2 also but don't do the oatmeal or cream of wheat since I don't understand how to strain them. I guess lots of Water and then you get to drink oatmeal flavored water? Doesn't sound good to me.

With the cream of wheat, you don't strain it, you just make it "soupy"... So, add more milk :)

Thanks! I'll have to try that.

Actually, it was suggested to me to make cream of wheat with milk INSTEAD of Water, so it adds some Protein. The dietician said I could eat "soupy" instant mashed potatoes. Did it one night and it woke my carb minter up BIG time. :/

I know - I agree. I'm always hungry and soooo sick of liquids. I don't get my Protein in because it grosses me out. Sending hubby to store for more Isopure so I'll just have to get more of those. *sigh*

You sound just like me! Daytime t.v. sucks! Every other commercial is food. I never realized it until now that I can't have it. Darn it. Day 4 for me and the bloated belly is NOT getting better. I feel hungry but worried that if I drink any more that it is going to bust open. Nowhere near getting my 60oz of Fluid every day. My belly was better this morning but since lunch it has blown up again. I just don't get it...why is it going back and forth. When I get to moving in the right direction (passing gas finally and pooping (well, diarrhea) then I want to keep moving in the right direction (getting rid of air) but it seems to be going backwards now. Any suggestions?

Have you tried any gasX? I took that for the first few days and it did seem to help. We literally have gas inside of us. And the chewable gasx is pretty good. And yep, had the diahrrea too. What was that? still have no idea. Now it's the opposite. So now I'm actually taking the colace the surgeon prescribed. Narcotics stop me up every time. But I would definitely try the gasx.

I have been trying to poop but i can't. I really have to but i am scared to push to hard. What am i going to do. If i don't go this weekend i am going to call the doc on Monday. I can feel it but it hurts to strain and stuff. I know it is TMI but i need relief soon.

Okay, here's the low-down on poop. The narcotics will constipate you. At least they do me. Now that my system is getting back to normal it's reacting like normal to medication like that. Gotta get more Water in. Also, prune juice is AWESOME! Now, not everyone's cup of tea, I know, but man it works. I haven't gotten to the prune juice stage yet, cause I do know how well it works, but it is also rather high in sugar. But if worse comes to worse, I will get some and drink it. Mmmm, tis tasty. Also, the colace. I had to change to adult gummie Vitamins (I just could NOT stomach my kids anymore....and I feel so bad now for making them take them at all....WAY OVERFLAVORED...gagged), and adult gummie vitamins don't have Iron so now I have to take an iron supplement. Does not help the poop situation. So my remedies are the colace, at least 2 20oz bottles of just water every day, and then all the other liquid I'm taking in...and if I need it, then some prune juice. And walk. Walk every day. Helps things move along. If that doesn't work, well, I figure I'm taking in only liquids, so I don't have much that I need to get rid of then. And if it gets really bad, I will call the doc. Although I can't imagine them doing much more than upping my colace...cause they're concerned about giving too much and then ending up with diahrrea again and dehydration. Hope this helps.

And yeah, I WANT food TOO. I'm ignoring it. Or at least trying to. I have had a small cracker/goldfish here and there when I just couldn't stand it any longer. I try to record all the shows I like so I don't have to watch the commercials. And my kids are already planning on what restaurant they are going to take me to when I'm on real food again. I must say I did go to the store and buy the baby food, oatmeal, grits (I don't even like grits...but I am SOOOOOO looking forward to cheese and bacon flavored grits that I'm almost giddy!!) that I am supposed to start eating on Tuesday. And I threatened my children within an inch of their life that if they even thought about saying anything to anyone outside of our house that I have to eat baby food that very bad things will happen to them if they do! But it's only a week. And I can add spices and make it palatable. Bring on the pureed food!

Can I just give a shout out to all of you who are drinking the Isopure clear Protein? !!! Way to go!

Cause I hate it. Nearly vomited it up when I had to go on Clear Liquids pre-op. My husband said that he would drink it. Works for me. Because I WILL NOT. Ewwwww.

No, no GasX for me. Doc doesn't want me taking anything pills, chewables, Vitamins even until I see him at my one week post-op next week. Maybe I am not walking enough. I am walking but not very far in the neighborhood because my incisions hurt so damn bad. I am so craving food today!!!!

Momofthing1thing2thing3: OMG! I literally laughed out loud reading your "scoop on poop"...especially the part at the end about buying baby food and threatening your kids lives if they tell anyone about Mommy eating baby food. I had to splint my incisions while laughing....

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.
      https://www.cms.gov/nosurprises
I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.
