Does Anyone Else Have To Stay Very Close To The Bathroom After Drinking A Protein Shake?

Recommended Posts

I did.... Just a couple of swallows and it was off to the bathroom... If you're mixing it with milk seems to be the trigger for me... Not as much with water....

It's pretty normal if you're only on liquids. Liquid Protein in = liquid out, unfortunately. Once on solid food it gets better. But if you're on food too and still having the issue with your shake, try a different brand. You may be using one that doesn't agree with your system.

If mixing with milk causes this, you may be lactose intolent. Try mixing with soy or almond milk instead. Good luck.

I kinda wish I had that problem. I have the opposite problem. I think either way, we are sensitive to what we are taking whether it is a slight allergy or what we are mixing with powder that doesn't settle or maybe whey doesn't settle well. I wish you the best. But I think I would feel better if things were moving than not. I think any extreme sucks. I hope you find a solution soon. I have also tried switching to rice Protein because I heard it's the easiest to digest. But I haven't seen a change with that either.

I have more of the not-so-frequent now but when I started it was explosive and loud for the first 3-4 weeks after surgery. I do have lots of gas now though. I think its one of the side effects. Wish it wasn't. I have never had buyers remorse though. Going down slowly but steadily. Happy camper.

I am lactose intolerant and I use soy milk when mixing my Protein and it usually takes anywhere from an hour to a day to start working on me. No matter what kind of liquid I use its going to send me to the bathroom. It just depends on how much time it gives me. For me, milk makes it taste better but Water or soy milk gives more time before I have to go.

It seems to be a trial & error thing these days.

My NUT said that if it gives you a lot of gas that you probably shouldn't be eating it. I suppose that's true for sweets and dairy but not so sure that applies to vegetables like broccoli or cabbage.

Welcome to the world of lactose intolerance. I developed the same problem about 5 weeks post-op. I can still eat Greek yogurt and Protein bars. I have stopped shakes entirely and I am getting 90-100 grams of Protein eating real food instead.

If you are not absorbing any of the protein from the shakes, no point continuing them.

Check what your Protein Powder content has if it is made from milk or has milk sugars in it that’s triggering your intolerance.

You may want to see if you can get a different one or just know that its gonna happen but not so bad because you mix it with lactose free products.

I have the exact same problem at least once a day. I told my hubby "when I gotta' go I gotta' go." Get the heck out of the way!

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
