Wo days away (9/11) and a friend of mine that had the sleeve asked of I am going to do a last meal before liquids I know what i want (she said she has trouble with sauces... So Italian it is) but am contemplating whether or not I should really do it... Down more than the 15lbs pre op the md requires and start liquids tomorrow

I'm going 9/11 too! I stopped eating solids Friday night though. My doctor didn't require a liquid diet pre op but I'm trying to be safe and shrink my liver to make surgery a little easier. If it were me personally I wouldn't risk a big meal today, especially one with high fats. I'm Italian and though it's delicious it's a very rich food type. I don't know. I wouldn't. But maybe if she's eating have one bite. I wouldn't have a whole meal though.

Hi,

I did have a "last meal" before my surgery. Now 4.5 mths post op, i realise there was no need for that at all.

I'm able to eat anything i wish now just in smaller portions and i like that.. :-D

So i guess it's really up to you, my surgery didn't require any pre op i'm not sure if that will jeopardise any thing for you tho..

Anyway good luck for your surgery!

I must confess Im glad I did.Even at six months out I can still only eat a few bites when we eat out.A good thing I know. But my last meal was....ok,I cant remember.Guess it isnt as important than I thought.

Hey,you decide! One meal isnt going to make you gain weight at this point.

O now I remember. We went to Atlantis hotel in Dubai for a Friday (Sunday in other parts of the world) lunch buffet. If I could choose again I would just have a nice ice cream cone as I cannot tolerate ice cream at all anymore and I love ice cream.

Ok,whatever you decide.No regrets!

Don't eat!!! It's not worth risking any complications when you are oh so close!! I was tempted but resisted and I am so glad! I am 4 days post op with no nausea or any other complications ... They put a clamp on your liver and pull it back which can be really sore so the smaller it is the better! Best of luck!!

To be honest, I don't remember....but I could look it up (I started tracking everything I ate about 2 months before I had surgery). It was probably 3-4 ounces of lean meat (most likely chicken breast), and three non-starchy veggies (1/2 cup of each). I had dramatically changed my eating habits prior to surgery (again, about 2 months before), in order to get things under control beforehand. So much of our food issues are psychological...I wanted to make sure I had those addressed (at least as much as possible) long before a knife touched me....to ensure maximum success afterwards. My post-op experience has been much less painful, I think, as a result.

If your "last meal" is going to push you back into bad habits (too much, high fat, high carb, etc), my suggestion would be to skip it. Once you start making better decisions, relative to food, you should reinforce those choices....every time you sit down to eat. (I strongly recommend the book "The End of Overeating"....it'll help you understand why we make the bad choices we make (or, as the case may be, MADE), and how we ended up needing surgery.)

Best of luck to you

Laura

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞

Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs.
I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm.
I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order.
My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.
