Oh dear Idk what to do now I already sent all my paperwork in to Alma except I haven't sent my deposit...I'm confused!

Look at it this way, if you are going with Dr. Garcia who will have an amazing doctor. The company that looks after you will make a difference. A lighter me is organized has great reps, visit you ALOT in your room, I saw them there everyday. I did not see my co-ordinator, if she called me I was not always in my room she did not come and see me until the last day and I had an issue with my medication and she did not come to the hotel to rectify she left me on my own to deal with it. Make a call to a lighter me I don't think you will be disappointed.

One other thing to say, they were not at the airport to pick me up like they said they would, I had to call long distance to them and when the guy arrived, Samuel's brother, he was in an old beat up jalopy with no air conditioning!! I was appalled!!

Omg! Lol I would have probably freaked out. It's already scary going there all alone, and to see a junky vehicle pull up to get you, that would make me want to run back in the airport and haul butt back to Texas!

There are Ronda, Sandy and Janese. And may be others. Janese is my coordinator for Dr. Lopez as well. Having it done in Puerto Vallrta with him and his wife.

The coordinators for a lighter me have been awesome answering all my questions so far.

I am using A lighter me and Rhonda has been great! She always responds promptly to all of my many questions via email or phone. She is out of TJ so I wonder who I will deal with when I land in Puerta Vallarta?

Omg! Lol I would have probably freaked out. It's already scary going there all alone, and to see a junky vehicle pull up to get you, that would make me want to run back in the airport and haul butt back to Texas!

I know exactly, I just about started to cry and thought what am I doing...........I held it in until I got to the hotel. I am so glad that I did do it, Dr Garcia is phenomenal and I am very happy with my surgery, thank God!

I have been comunicating w/ Alma @ ready4 a change she has been great. I feel comfortable with her and honestly I have my phone I can email, fb or call via skype if I want to. My surgeon is Dr Garcia and I spoke to him already I'm happy with my decision. As long as I have no complications w/ my vsg I will be a happy patient.

Hey guys, I wanted to post my experience with Ready4Achange. I was sleeved on Saturday, Oct 27th by Dr Garcia and staff at Mi Doctor Hospital.< /p>

My coordinator was Alma...she's the one I communicated with while making my decision and getting all the health history, etc. About 3 days prior to my flignt into San Diego, osie contacted me to confirm my flights and give me Samuel's phoine number (he's the driver whio picks us up at the airport and takes us back to the airport).

As soon as I arrived in San Diego, I called Samuel, and he was there in 5 minutes--maybe less . he put me at ease and he's very nice to talk to also.

I got the hotel (Marriott) and Samuel carried my bag into the lobby and we met up with Rosie ,who checked me in and brought me to my room. The bell man and Rosie explained everything regarding the hotel and the amenities I get while staying there.

Rosie gave me all the info I needed for the morning--when the shuttle would get me and what would happen after. She checked on me one more time that night. She is VERY nice, and easy to talk with...she put me at ease also.

The next morning, I was picked up by the Marriott shuttle and taken to Mi Doctor. There I was met by Melissa, my onsite coordinator. She is also VERY sweet and was there at the hospital checking on me several times during my 2 day stay. She introduced me to Jasmine, who wayched my bag while I was in surgery (did I mention I was by myself??)

I saw a few docs during my stay :Dr Garcia (surgeon--VERY nice, VERY comforting and I fely absolutely confident in my choice to be sleeved by his team) Dr Cabrera (anethesiologist--sooo nice-Put me totally at ease-I have bad veins and was really nervous about them getting my IV--he did the IV after I was already out--LOVE IT!!!), Dra Velazco (she was REALLY great--I saw her about 4 times and she's had WLS--she is so sweet and listens to you and answers any questions--also gave me her number and email so if I have any questions or concerns). I saw 3 other docs while I was there--One Dr who took out my staples on day 2-He said he was there during the surgery but I wouldnt remember--Very nice and very careful--) I had two different night docs during my stay- (-One woman Doctora who was sweet and attentive-young) and another young doctor who was really nice and wanted to mnake sure I was walking enough and made sure my IV was doing OK, I was getting enough fluids..etc....every person I came in contact with during my stay at the hotel AND hospital was great. I felt like a VIP--I know other peeps said that too. I have say that I was the ONLY patient on my floor for the majority of my hospital stay. I think night 2 there was one other person. All the nurses were SOOOOO sweet. I did not feel that the language barrier affected my care. I speak very little spanish, and that was plenty, but even if I knew nothing, they know enough to get you what u need. There's also a paper in a frame ( I think others had it laminated) that has all the necessary phrases we'd need to translate--I never used it at all--not needed.

Day two post op, I got my IV out, drain and staples out, and Melissa helped me downstairs and waited until the shuttle came to get me. Rosie was waiting for me at the Marriott and Ive seen her twice since being here. She's coming to see me later this evening, also.

So, here I am, on day 3, and Im feeling good. Tired, but good. No problems at all.

I did a detailed account of the surgery itself and how I felt over the course of the two days post op on the thread titled: "Just got back from surgery with Dr Fernando Garcia".

At this point, Im so glad I did this. I feel this was a big deal, not just some little procedure, but the staff at Ready4Achange made it really easy. They took excellent care of me, and at NO time did I feel unsafe or on my own--(I WAS on my own, though--I went alone--but it didnt feel like it!)

I know that everyones experience is different...but for myself, friends or a loved one, I would not hesitate to recommend using Ready4Achange and Dr Garcia (and staff at Mi Doctor). I have to agree with some others: I have never received this level of care in the US--(Im a healthcare professional, by the way....I feel like some of the nurses and docs in the US might learn a bit from these peeps!!!)

oh, one more thing--The broth at the Marriott was OK, I brought Miso and some packets of my own and preferred that, but the broth at the Marriott was not gross or undrinkable (in my opinion).

I did go to Walmart today and got another pack of Miso, some Jello, and some RETIN-A (wrinkle cream that costs a LOT more In the US) at the pharmacy at Wal Mart--One stop shop!!! STOKED.

      Iʻm roughly 6 weeks post-op this morning and have begun to feel like a normal human, with a normal human body again. I started introducing solid foods and pill forms of medications/supplements a couple of weeks ago and it's really amazing to eat meals with my family again, despite the fact that my portions are so much smaller than theirs. 
      I live on the island of Oʻahu and spend a lot of time in the water- for exercise, for play,  and for spiritual & mental health. The day I had my month out appointment with my surgeon, I packed all my gear in my truck, anticipating his permission to get back in the ocean. The minute I walked out of that hospital I drove straight to the shore and got in that water. Hallelujah! My appointment was at 10 am. I didn't get home until after 5 pm. 
      I'm down 31 pounds since the day of surgery and 47 since my pre-op diet began, with that typical week long stall occurring at three weeks. I'm really starting to see some changes lately- some of my clothing is too big, some fits again. The most drastic changes I notice however are in my face. I've also noticed my endurance and flexibility increasing. I was really starting to be held up physically, and I'm so grateful that I'm seeing that turn around in such short order. 
      My general disposition lately is hopeful and motivated. The only thing that bugs me on a daily basis still is the way those supplements make my house smell. So stink! But I just bought a smell proof bag online that other people use to put their pot in. My house doesn't stink anymore.

      Oh yeah, something I wanted to rant about, a billing dispute that cropped up 3 months ago.
      Surgery was in August of 2023. A bill shows up for over $7,000 in January. WTF? I asks myself. I know that I jumped through all of the insurance hoops and verified this and triple checked that, as did the surgeon's office. All was set, and I paid all of the known costs before surgery.
      A looong story short, is that an assistant surgeon that was in the process of accepting money from my insurance company touched me while I was under anesthesia. That is what the bill was for. But hey, guess what? Some federal legislation was enacted last year to help patients out when they cannot consent to being touched by someone out of their insurance network. These types of bills fall under something called, "surprise billing," and you don't have to put up with it.

      I had to make a lot of phone calls to both the surgeon's office and the insurance company and explain my rights and what the maximum out of pocket costs were that I could be liable for. Also had to remind them that it isn't my place to be taking care of all of this and that I was going to escalate things if they could not play nice with one another.
      Quick ending is that I don't have to pay that $7,000+. Advocate, advocate, advocate for yourself no matter how long it takes and learn more about this law if you are ever hit with a surprise bill.

      Thank you everyone for your well wishes! I totally forgot I wrote an update here... I'm one week post op today. I gained 15 lbs in water weight overnight because they had to give me tons of fluids to bring my BP up after surgery! I stayed one night in the hospital. Everything has been fine except I seem to have picked up a bug while I was there and I've been running a low grade fever, coughing, and a sore throat. So I've been hydrating well and sleeping a ton. So far the Covid tests are negative.
      I haven't been able to advance my diet past purees. Everything I eat other than tofu makes me choke and feels like trying to swallow rocks. They warned me it would get worse before it gets better, so lets hope this is all normal. I have my follow up on Monday so we'll see. Living on shakes and soup again is not fun. I had enough of them the first time!! LOL
