I'm about 3 weeks post op and I've lost close to 50 pounds but I have noticed the past several days I've gone up several pounds. I was 405 at my highest pre-op and I did hit 358 I weighed my self this morning and I'm at 364. Is that cause of the change from liquids to solid foods? I have great tolerance for all foods. i'm still eating soft foods like oatmeal and eggs but for dinner I have eaten grilled chicken and some seafoods like salmon and crab meat. I still have my Protein Drink 2-3 times a day. The worst thing I think I have eaten wa 2 slices of whole grain toast with PB and J. I'd also like to noted today was my first day back at the gym :). In any case just curious if that is norman.

3 weeks post op and you can eat like that? Wow! I'm still on full liquids. (surgery 8/21). Next Tuesday I start puree foods for 2 weeks then soft food for 2 weeks, THEN I can eat 'normally.' My surgeon is pretty strict and doesn't mess around. He says leaks are pretty darn awful and he'll err on the side of caution rather than risk leaks.

Are you getting enough Protein in? From what I've learned, getting your Protein in is the key to continued weight loss.

If you can tolerate pretty much everything food wise maybe the Protein Shakes are too much along with the food.

Im told its normal. I have the same thing going on with me. I started on solid foods at 3weeks.I know I was not suppose to but I was hungry. I mainly just added meat soft meats. And nothing seems to bother me. I gained 1 lb , and now i have been at a stall since then. And I am 8 weeks post op.

I agree with the other poster. Sounds like you are eating way to much too soon. How can you eat two slices of bread with pbj you are definitely at risk of getting a leak. Slow down and take this process slowly. You will have the rest of your life to eat solid foods!

I gained a couple of pounds when I went on solid food. My Nut told me to stop having the Protein drinks because I was taking in too much Protein. I did and started loosing again. I also found I had to change up my food for higher protein intake to keep from feeling hungry. I started having more nuts and cheese in controlled portions. Don't feel bad about the PJ sandwich, Try using one slice of bread not two.

Best of luck on your journey!

My Protein drinks are around 200 calories each so I don't drink them much any more. I'm on 750 calories so 3 Protein Drinks would preclude me from eating more than a slice of cheese. Too much Protein is not the problem. Too many calories are. The goal is between 70 and 90 grams of protein a day.

3 Protein Drinks @ 200 calories: 600 calories

1 slice whole grain toast: 100 calories

1 TBS peanut butter: 100 calories

1 TBS jelly: 50 calories

Oatmeal: 160 calories

1 Egg: 70 calories

Just that much is 1,080 calories and a LOT of carbohydrates. At 3 weeks I was just starting full liquids (milk, yogurt, etc.) and getting 400-500 calories if I was lucky.

Go to My Fitness Pal or Fitday and start logging in everything you eat. Also start measuring things either by weight or Fluid oz. depending on the food.

Is anyone else frustrated with the difference in advice all of our docs and nutritionists give? Mine said you can never drink too much Protein, straws are fine, etc. I've been looking at various weight loss surgery programs and they really vary as far as food phases. I guess there hasn't been enough time to get a scientific set in stone pathway. Does that mean we all just cross our fingers that our doc/ nut have it right? Aargh!

Yeah, my nutritionist was appalled that I ever drank Protein shakes anymore. I told her that I occasionally replace my Breakfast with one. She also said to cut down on the cheese I ate as if 20 grams of fat a day is a lot.

I do my own reading and I see what works best with me.

I do think the conservative 2 weeks of clear liquid, 2 weeks of full liquid and 2 weeks of mushies/puree is a good deal though.

Also Protein first and most, veggies/low glycemic fruit next and a tiny bit of healthy carbs to fill in the edges is a good plan as well.

So how are you supposed to get 70-90 grams of Protein without shakes? I can't wait to not have them anymore?

You eat fresh ahi tuna, salmon, scallops, white fish, shrimp, beef, pork, lamb, chicken, turkey, Greek yogurt, cheese, cottage cheese, eggs, nuts and Beans.

At least that's how I do it.

But don't those things typically have less than 15 g of Protein? 3 meals.... Oh and Beans, love'em. I was told no beans. You sound, and look like you've got it figured out. I've always done well with meat.< /p>

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
