Fast Track To Sleeve

Recommended Posts

Hello VST Family. I've read some amazing posts on here from the good, bad and indifferent. I decided a few weeks ago that enough is enough. I've been "dieting" and exercising over the last 3 years to only lost 80lbs, gain 50, lose 15...you see where this is going. Having NEVER considered wls, I woke up out of my sleep a few weeks back and said I'm going to get wls. I'm over it! So as quick as that thought came I feel like everything has happened so quick. Within 30 days I've attended a seminar, had a consultation with my surgeon, scheduled my psych and nut exams, attended a pre-op seminar and I even have my surgery tentatively scheduled for November 9th. This is going way too fast. I'm nervous as hell! My thoughts can't even catch up with all the activity going on. I know this is definitely something I want and need to do, yet after reading some post it appears that ppl have waited weeks/months just even a consult with the surgeon and here I am with about 80% of my to do's done! All my pre reqs for insurance approval will be sent over in the next 2 weeks for approval. According to the doc my insurance (Horizon BCBS) takes about 5 days to approve. With that being said...fingers crossed I guess I could be approved sometime late September. I'm sure I'm not the first to experience these feelings, but I just wanted to get this off my chest and hopefully hear/read a few words of encouragement to relive myself of these bouts of anxiety, doubts, fears, etc.

I think I might have you beat. :) I went from deciding to have the surgery to actually having the surgery in 30 days. I was self pay, so I was able to skip all those hoops, but, same as you, I woke up and said enough was enough. I need a permanent solution to this roller coaster.

Congrats on making a decision to take some action. It has been great for me.

I decided to have surgery end of June, after never having contemplated it. Had appt with surgeon the next week who said he could do it in a fortnight. I had to give work 4 weeks notice for that much leave so had it early August. About 6 weeks from thought to surgery.

I understand the feeling like you are rushing or something LOL I decided on July 5th and had a date scheduled by July 26th.. I scheduled my surgery for September 14th but would have done it waaaaaay sooner if I could have gotten the time off work.. had to wait til I could get 10 or 12 days off in a row because I'm a nurse and work 12 hr shifts on my feet & figured I'll need some time to heal before I have to go back LOL

When I finally made up my mind, I was READY to do it right away and was disappointed to find out I had to go through six months of insurance required nutrition counceiling. The funny thing is, when I finally got approval and got my date, I also felt like everything was going so fast and was overwhelming. I had been thinking about it for over six months and I was suddenly overwhelmed by it??!! I guess my point is that it is a big step in anyone's life regardless of if you have weeks or months to think about it. Getting nervous about it is completely normal. It sounds like you have taken the time to do your research on it and you are ready. A November surgery date still gives you two months to mentally prepare. With all of your appointments happening in rapid succession, it just seems like it is happening tomorrow. Take a deep breath, relax and look forward to the journey of becoming a healthier, happier you! (and know that I am green with envy that you didn't have to wait six months!! :) )

I had to wait for 8 months to get my surgery. I do think that it helped me though. The toughest part for me was getting mentally prepared for the big changes. Congrats and good luck!

I went to my first consult on June 28th and was in surgery July 26th. I had insurance changes so I had to make sure that it would go under the insurance that would cover it. The only reason I wish I had more time was to have a couple counseling sessions maybe and get used to the idea a little more, but if I had to make the choice again I'd do it in a second. It's totally worth it, even if it is a whirlwind. You still have a couple months, so hopefully that'll give you plenty of time to process =)

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
