Why would anyone ask a bunch of strangers for permission on what to do with their body? And most importantly' date=' why would anyone think they had the right to give (or deny) permission to another adult to eat or drink something?

Unless you're the OP's doctor or nutritionist, you're not really qualified to do that.[/quote']

Wait aren't you the same guy that was telling everyone a few weeks ago that you were drinking soda????????????

First, I'm not a guy.

Second, yes and that's exactly why I can relate to the OP. That day I had about 2 oz of flat, watered down, caffeine free Diet Coke and people jumped on me like I had a gallon of ice cream. In this thread the OP asked a simple question and wanted a simple answer. Doubt she was looking for the hyper judgmental and alarmist responses she ended up with. Unfortunately, those responses have a chilling effect on others posting - I've seen a few responses in various threads of people seeing how people react when someone posts something others would perceive as "bad" and saying they'd never say anything for fear of generating those types of responses.

Is that really what this place is about? Getting down on others for their choices? Because frankly, I thought it was for support and encouragement.

Funny, it's always that same group of maybe 5 or 6 people who can't help but criticize other people for their food choices. The majority of people are incredibly kind and supportive, but those same 5 or 6 people ruin it for the rest of us with their holier than thou attitudes.

You are just as critical as anybody here, but not about food choices. You are critical because people wont encourage or support other people's bad choices. Why can't tough love be part of the "encourage and support" equation? I expect people who support me to tell me when I'm doing something wrong, like wanting to drink a milkshake. I know I'm far from perfect, but I don't expect anyone to validate my bad choices.

You're absolutely right - and I'm going to keep being critical of people who use this forum as a way to mock, ridicule and judge those who come here for support and encouragement.

And I call bull on your "tough love" -- you don't know these people, and I'm pretty sure you don't care whether people succeed or not. I think you, and some other people here, just like to spout your info and beliefs because you're positive you're right and everyone else is wrong - it gives you validation.

Me? I just want people to feel good about the choice they made having this miserable surgery and help them get through the rough Patches, of which there are many. To me, at least, that's far more supportive than criticizing what someone puts in their mouth.

Sorry LT, I don't mean to jump on you personally or to start an argument. But if the OP wanted support and encouragement I think the thread would have started with "I'm suffering from head hunger and I'm craving a milkshake." Thats something we all understand.

But no, he wanted information. He wanted to know when he could have a milkshake. Several people encouraged him to not drink a shake and supported his decision to eat healthy.

How can you tell me I don't know these people and then proceed to make assumptions about me and my motives? You are completely wrong.

No offense but,

Sorry I gotta go with "life in pink" they sure look like mutton chop sideburns in your avatar/pic. When using my phone the pic is about 1 square mm. And I'm with bean on the tuff love , I think it shows more love/compassion to point out someone's insane food choices , attitudes, and behaviors than to let them continue in folly . Usually when that advise is "offensive" to me it's because there is some element of it that I know applies to me and I am failing to execute on it. Btw can you say love on this forum ? Anyway a year from now we will all be skinny veterans here, bean will Have just won the tour de France , you will have a new profile pic in a sweet swimsuit and it won't matter who had a milkshake.

I ditto this.

Also, the people that take the time to post in a response to an OP is doing it because they do care about the poster. In order for a person to make a change in his/her life to succeed at being success at keeping his/her weight off, we do have to make changes in our choices and lifestyle. This site is for everyone to post on and it's just their take on the OP's post. Frankly, when I'm struggling with something like having a "Milkshake," (just an example) I need someone who can give me his/her perspective on how they are handling the choices that are alternatives to mine. I read posts and I take what i want and I don't find the need to argue with anyone. I respect each one's slant on things and I choose my own.

LT, your dog is absolutely adorable. Please accept my apologies for your feeling you had to change your original avatar due to members making unkind comments about it. As a support forum, that is definitely not encouraged here, and is a violation of forum rules.

Lots of opinions flying. You can make a lowfat low sugar milk shake and make it taste as good as one with fat and sugar. None of my business but try looking on eggface.com. Lots of good recipes and the girl that posts believes in enjoying what you eat. She is 3 yrs out and went from a size 28 to a size 4.

Sometimes I don’t; get this site!

Instead of jumping on people for perceived bad choices that they never even had why not suggest a healthy alternative and save said person from making a bad choice?

I was one of the people who suggested a healthy milkshake alternative hardly anyone does this its instant BAD POSTER BAD NO BAD!

Its happened before people have given a healthy option the Pasta thread is one mac n cheese another.

How to make things you liked before but healthy now is far more constructive so why oh why is it an instant NO BAD! When there is no need to go there?

Then the personal insults you have no idea what other things are going on in a person’s life what if they are sideburns but that’s a side effect to say pocs?

It’s so crappy and rude to make personal insults on people who do not agree with you.

Hey I have pocs and I have a tash and beard doesn’t make me a man but catch me on the right day and I am the bearded lady dose this mean you have the right to be rude to me and insult me for a medical condition?

No it does not!

No fat insults on this forum but everything else is up for grabs huh?

btw i drink a shake every day it happens to be my Protein shake.< /p>

Sometimes people are well intended but lose the message in their delivery. You can be nice and constructive. Probably more constructive in the kind approach. Just sayin.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
