Post-Op Nutrition, Lesson Learned

Recommended Posts

Well, Beloved, I learned a lesson today, one that I've read of on here before. Today I just wasn't very hungry. I didn't have Breakfast. I drank 25% of an Isopure and had some chicken broth mid afternoon. I only drank 30ish oz of fluids.

I had surgery Monday, August 20, 2012.

Guess what, I got light headed and dizzy tonight. Thank goodness for chick broth and powders? utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury Chicken Soup Protein powder!

Lesson learned and a word to all my follow new sleevers: eat even if you don't feel hungry!

I had surgery August 21. NUT has me on 64 oz of clear liquid for a week. Tomorrow I can start full liquids: 64grams of Protein & 64 oz of liquid. Then in 3 weeks I can eat very liquid mushy. Surgeon really stressed NO FOODS for 3 weeks. It's worth doing liquids for 3 weeks because a leaky sleeve isn't fun, so giving the staples time to heal is really important. :-)

August 20 Sleever here also. I have done pretty good all week, but today, I just dont want to drink anymore. Im having trouble pushing the liquids

Also, are any of the August 20 sleevers still having pain up high? I also had a Hiatal Hernia fixed at the same time, so I am not sure which is causing the pain.

Wow, I'm really getting concerned with my surgeon and NUT. They allow full liquids and purées at 3 days! post op and regular food at 2 weeks! I think I am going to slow things down by about a week. Does anybody NOT agree with that? Thanks!

I am a 8/20 sleever too. I am on 8 ounces of Protein shake daily and building up my liquids.

I have 2 ounces of shake 4 times a day. Adding Crystal light to my Water has helped me get my liquids down.

Today I made some sugarfree Jello and that was a nice treat.

Week 3 i get to add pureed foods. I am excited!

Angela, my surgeon also has this same schedule and I am also going to slow it down. I just don't see how a long staple line can be healed enough for "anything you want' at 3 weeks. I'm just not going to take the chance....

I've read where Doctors in Europe have their patients eating regular foods in a couple of days. By regular I mean lean Protein solid foods. My doc had me on full liquids the day after surgery. Soft foods (eggs and chili) at 2 weeks. The deal is, they are operating on your stomach, not your teeth. You can chew the heck out of anything and turn it into dust before you swallow it.

But having said that, I will say if you enter into a new phase and you are not tolerating it well, then by all means slow down and go back to the previous phase. I'm sure your doctor would agree with that.

Hi Sannah, you can also use the timer or stopwatch on your iPhone clock. I use it every day to keep track of the 30 minutes I need to wait after drinking Water before I can have my shake.

I'm an August 8th sleever and I still have pain up high. Mine is a burning pain. It isn't constant and it seems to be getting better with a drug that coats ulcers and protects your stomach tissue.

My nut said it is normal for sleevers to experience heartburn for up to four or five months after surgery.

It will get better.

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
