Finally Got A Date!

Recommended Posts

I finally was given the news that have been approved and a surgery date. It will be 9/27/12. I had to make phone calls to find out and get a date, so if you're in this phase of the process make sure you ask for things to get expedited or even to get done. Anyways, I'm so happy but starting to get nervous.

Any suggestions on how should I prepare my self for the pre-op diet and for surgery? What should I buy and have at home after I get home from the hospital?

Thanks!

Congrats!! My surgery is 9/25. We are just a couple of day apart. At least you don't have to wait long. I got my date in early July. I have tried different Protein Shakes but like the premier from costco. After surgery my dr office have a shake I can get from them. Hope everything goes well for all of us.

To save myself the time writing it out again (and remembering everything) I made a list a few days ago on another thread:

http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/48841-what-do-i-need-for-the-hospital-and-for-the-first-week-at-home/

There is also an official thread on this:

http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/10081-the-official-what-you-will-need-for-your-gastric-sleeve-surgery-thread/page__hl__%2Bofficial+%2Bhospital+%2Bthread

And a follow up on what people brought vs what they actually used:

http://www.verticalsleevetalk.com/topic/44973-of-all-the-crap-you-took-to-the-hospital-what-did-you-actually-use/page__hl__+nook%20+robe#entry407579

As far as preparing yourself pre-op, if I could go back and prepare again I would:

- Spend more time getting in six small meals a day (about every 2 hours) to be a habit

- Exercise more: getting off a bit of weight decreases your surgical risks

- Follow the pre-op diet as close as possible (I didn't have one, but if your surgeon asks for one, it's important to follow it as close as possible)

- Set myself some realistic goals for the first few months post-op

- Get in the habit of sipping 64 oz of Water - it's harder than it sounds!

- Try a bunch of Protein drinks - but don't buy too many for post-op, your tastes may change

- Try and identify times I feel compelled to eat so that I could start working on them (emotional eating, etc)

- Figure out if all my medications are available in chewable/liquid form and make sure i have them on hand right after surgery - crushed pills taste horrible

- Take before pictures

- Take before measurements

Surgery will be here before you know it ! Congratulations on getting your date!

I changed my profile image to a molecule of protein. Why? Because I am certain that it saved my life.

Two years out. Lost 120 , regained 5 lbs. Recently has a bout of Norovirus, lost 7 pounds in two days. Now my stomach feels like it did right after my surgery. Sore, sensitive to even water.  Anyone out there have a similar experience?

      April Surgery
Am I the only struggling to get weight down. I started with weight of 297 and now im 280 but seem to not lose more weight. My nutrtionist told me not to worry about the pounds because I might still be losing inches. However, I do not really see much of a difference is this happen to any of you, if so any tips?
      Thanks

Well recovering from gallbladder removal was a lot like recovering from the modified duodenal switch surgery, twice in 4 months yay 🥳😭. I'm having to battle cravings for everything i shouldn't have, on top of trying to figure out what happens after i eat something. Sigh, let me fast forward a couple of months when everyday isn't a constant battle and i can function like a normal person again! 😞
